‘Overlord’

Stream on May 1

In this new take on World War II, the movie titled Overlord chronicles a band of American paramilitary troops who are parachuted into enemy territory just before an alternate D-Day invasion. Their objective is to destroy a Nazi broadcasting tower, but things don’t go according to plan, leading them to uncover a horrifying secret as they proceed with their mission.

After a mid-air plane crash, only four soldiers miraculously make it out alive. Following this catastrophic incident, it becomes evident that their mission was not just an ordinary military operation. In fact, they uncover horrors far beyond their initial expectations of what the Third Reich might have been capable of doing. Overlord premieres on May 1st.

‘Tremors’

Stream on May 1

As a die-hard fan of bone-chilling horror movies, let me tell you about my upcoming favorite watch: “Tremors”. This nail-biting thriller takes place in a secluded Nevada town where the locals find themselves battling against terrifying, subterranean beasts. When I stumble upon a string of bizarre deaths, I cross paths with Rhonda (Finn Carter), a brilliant grad student who’s been monitoring unusual tremors in the area. It soon becomes apparent that colossal, ancient, worm-like monsters are to blame for these seismic irregularities, and I join forces with Burt (Michael Gross) and Heather (Reba McEntire), a couple of resourceful survivalists. Together, we’ll stop at nothing to vanquish the flesh-devouring creatures that threaten our existence. So mark your calendars for May 1st; Tremors is here to keep you on the edge of your seat!

‘The Ugly Stepsister’

Stream on May 9

Title twist, “The Ugly Stepsister,” offers a chilling and dark interpretation of the timeless fairy tale, Cinderella and her glass slipper. The story unfolds at a Victorian mansion in Sweden, focusing on Elvira (Lea Myren), who goes to great lengths to win the prince’s adoration. In her quest for victory against her charming and alluring stepsister, Agnes (Thea Sofie Loch Næss), Elvira takes drastic actions. In a realm where beauty holds the throne, no limits are set. Consequently, this film may not suit those with sensitive stomachs. “The Ugly Stepsister” will be available for streaming on May 9th.

‘Rust Creek’

Stream on May 12

In simpler terms, Rust Creek is a suspenseful film that follows the story of Sawyer (Hermione Corfield), a diligent college student, who finds herself lost in the forests of Kentucky during her journey to a job interview. An unlucky twist leads her to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, causing two local miscreants to suspect she witnessed their criminal act.

Following an unexpected encounter on the roadside, she finds herself compelled to protect herself against them and the unforgiving nature of an unfamiliar landscape. Consequently, she forms an alliance with a solitary individual named Lowell (played by Jay Paulson), whose motives are unclear and who has links to the very men intending her harm. Rust Creek will be streaming on May 12.

‘The Surrender’

Stream on May 23

As a devoted cinephile, I’d describe the chilling supernatural horror, “The Surrender“, from my perspective: This film delves into the abyss of sorrow and despair as it chronicles the tumultuous relationship between Barbara (Kate Burton) and her daughter Megan (Colby Minifie). When Megan returns home to aid her ailing father, she uncovers an unusual set of beliefs that Barbara has embraced in a desperate attempt to preserve her father’s life.

In the bittersweet twist of fate, when my beloved husband passes away peacefully in his sleep one fateful night, things take a sinister turn as Barbara brings in a shadowy figure to resurrect him. As the chilling and grotesque revival unfolds, we’ll be forced to set aside our disagreements and band together if we hope to endure. The Surrender premieres on May 23.

‘Vampire Hunter D’

Stream on May 30

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the 1985 Japanese fantasy horror production titled “Vampire Hunter D”. Exclusively available on Shudder, this adult-themed animated movie takes place in a barren and post-apocalyptic setting that is now under the rule of vampires forming a new aristocracy. With the remnants of humanity living in constant fear of these bloodthirsty beings, one such vampire, Count Magnus Lee, seeks to make Doris Lang his new bride after tasting her blood. However, she resists and hires a mysterious vampire hunter, called D, from a terrifying lineage to help her escape this dreadful destiny. “Vampire Hunter D” will be streaming on May 30th.
