Sikandar Movie Review: Once more Salman Khan and AR Murugadoss, but this time do better

Name: Sikandar

Director: AR Murugadoss

Cast: Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna, Prateik Smita Patil, Sharman Joshi, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj

Writer: AR Murugadoss, Rajat Arora, Hussain Dalal, Abbas Dalal

Plot

In a simplified and conversational style,

Sanjay Rajkot (portrayed by Salman Khan) is the beloved ruler of Rajkot, cherished by all citizens due to his countless contributions to society. Sanjay is happily married to Saishree (Rashmika Mandanna), and they enjoy a lovely bond together. However, their relationship isn’t without challenges as Sanjay often finds himself with limited time to spend with his wife due to his commitments.

Later on, Sanjay develops a contentious relationship with a city politician in Mumbai, which is followed by a profound personal loss. This guilt propels him towards Mumbai for a righteous purpose, but his animosity with the politician complicates matters further.

What works for Sikandar?

Salman Khan returns for his fans on Eid with a crowd-pleasing movie. While Sikandar offers a satisfying amount of action, keep in mind that the trailer was just okay. Adjust your expectations and you should find the action on screen enjoyable (at least during the first half).

Sikandar adheres to the guidelines for making a cocktail, ensuring a regular Salman Khan admirer finds delight. After all, who wouldn’t appreciate a movie featuring non-stop action along with moments showcasing Salman’s Being Human singing prowess? The concept seems well-balanced at least on the surface.

What doesn’t work for Sikandar?

In simpler terms, the movie “Sikandar” is an example of a mass production that falls short of its intended goal. Although the action sequences are impressive, they fail to keep viewers engaged due to their lack of impact. The story could have evoked strong emotions but disappointingly, it’s executed with little enthusiasm. The dialogues in the film tend to bore instead of entertain because the delivery by actors is rather ordinary compared to the writing. It seems like there wasn’t enough dedication towards creating a good, entertaining movie.

Music and background score add to the woes as it never gets you involved.

Performances and Direction

It’s noticeable that Salman Khan’s captivating charm is sorely missed, as he appears to be out of his usual comfort zone. While he handles action sequences competently, he sometimes falls short in portraying emotional scenes or delivering lines effectively.

In a more casual and simplified version: Rashmika Mandanna, Sharman Joshi, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, and Prateik Babbar don’t have memorable roles or performances in this film. Anjini Dhawan barely gets a chance to shine with her talent.

Following critically acclaimed films such as Ghajini and Holiday, director AR Murugadoss teamed up with Salman Khan on a highly anticipated project this year. Unfortunately, the end result has left fans feeling underwhelmed. The direction in this film lacks the spark that is typically found in moments where audiences would usually be moved to clap or cheer. This is surprising given that Murugadoss’ 2008 film Ghajini continues to be celebrated for its powerful emotional resonance.

There seems to be little spark or enchantment in the dynamic between Salman and Rashmika, beyond their acting abilities. Additionally, this could be due to some ambiguity in the scripting as well.

Final Verdict

In summary, the movie Sikandar falls short in meeting its intended goals and isn’t particularly engaging for a wide audience. While it does have a respectable plotline, it lacks the necessary depth, compelling soundtrack, and powerful acting that would make it memorable.
