We experimented with various versions of Simone on the cliff edge in the finale, and the one we ultimately selected has a mysterious Mona Lisa-like smile. Her expression remains somewhat obscure. This choice was made because I believe there’s an interpretation where she emerges victorious, embodying a siren and her powerful roar.

There’s also a version that this situation carries a mix of sweetness and sadness, and it seems to me that the way the audience perceives it reveals quite a bit about their feelings, perhaps even something about who they identify with – her, you, or the concept of home itself, and what actions they might take in such a predicament. To me, she appears to be fighting for survival, and her actions reflect that struggle.
