In a chat with TopMob, Bollywood legend Aamir Khan shared details about his upcoming film, “Par,” which we’ve decided to release on June 20. During the conversation, his daughter, Ira Khan, briefly mentioned her interest in neurodivergent peer support.
Aamir went on to elaborate the broader message of the movie, stating, “In truth, this film is deeply tied to the topic of mental health in multiple aspects. Once you observe my character, you’ll grasp what I’m trying to convey. For now, let’s hope for the best as I’m still developing that connection within the story.
The announcement about Sitaare Zameen Par has made people even more excited, as it’s being viewed as the spiritual sequel to Aamir Khan’s 2007 hit film Taare Zameen Par. Unlike the original, which delved into the emotional struggles of a young boy with dyslexia, Sitaare Zameen Par adopts a lighter, more comedic approach while still staying true to themes of mental wellness and acceptance.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir described Taare Zameen Par as a deeply emotional movie that will make you cry, while Sitaare Zameen Par is a comedic film that will leave you laughing – both stories focus on individuals facing different abilities, intelligence, or challenges.
Aamir explained that the sequel surpasses its predecessor in many aspects because instead of my character helping the one with the challenge (Ishaan) as in Taare Zameen Par, the roles are reversed in Sitaare Zameen Par, where ten people with challenges provide help to the normal person. He expressed hope that it will turn out successfully.
If you recall, Taare Zameen Par wasn’t just a hit at the box office but also a significant cultural landmark. Penned by Amole Gupte, this 2007 production garnered widespread acclaim for shedding light on learning disorders, particularly dyslexia, in mainstream Indian society. In the leading roles were Darsheel Safary as Ishaan and Aamir Khan portraying the empathetic art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh. The film was honored with three National Film Awards.
Titled “Stars on Earth,” this movie, set to hit theaters in June 2025, is helmed by RS Prasanna and focuses on individuals with special abilities. Officially announced in October 2023, it offers a unique take while maintaining its connection to the theme, providing an engaging narrative. The star-studded cast includes Aamir Khan, Darsheel Safary, and Genelia Deshmukh in significant roles. Notably, this film draws inspiration from the 2018 Spanish movie “Champions,” exploring themes of neurodiversity and acceptance.
