Sky Content Team Rejig Expands Remit of Meghan Lyvers as Scripted Head, Caroline Cooper as COO

As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed countless shifts and restructures within the gaming industry, I can’t help but draw parallels between Sky’s recent changes and the strategic maneuvers seen in my favorite MMOs. The appointment of Cécile Frot-Coutaz as CEO of Sky Studios and Chief Content Officer signals a new expansion pack, bringing fresh content and potentially exciting questlines for viewers.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Sky, the media and telecommunications powerhouse owned by Comcast, has consolidated its non-sports content teams in the U.K. and Ireland under a unified leadership structure. The legendary Cécile Frot-Coutaz, who currently serves as CEO of Sky Studios, has taken on an additional role, becoming the Chief Content Officer as well. This move not only reflects her remarkable accomplishments but also promises an exciting era of content creation for Sky.

At the end of July, it was announced by BBC Studios that their production division, BBC Studios Productions, had appointed Zai Bennett, currently the Managing Director of Content at Sky, as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Creative Officer, with his tenure set to begin in the autumn.

Sky Content Team‘s structure has been revamped, expanding the responsibilities and tasks of individuals like Meghan Lyvers and Phil Edgar-Jones, as well as others, according to Frot-Coutaz.

In this rephrased version, Liver becomes the head of the original scripted division as the executive director. Previously, Julia Stuart, the director of original films, was operating independently. Now, she, along with Katherine Butler (for drama commissioning) and Alex Moody (for comedy commissioning), will report directly to Liver. Additionally, those who already reported to Liver will continue in their roles.

Effective immediately, Edgar-Jones has been appointed as the Executive Director for our unscripted division, taking charge of our entertainment, arts, and factual content. Poppy Dixon, currently overseeing documentaries and factual content, will now also report directly to him in addition to her existing reporting structure, as announced by Sky.

“In his role as Executive Director for Content Strategy & Performance at Sky, Jamie Morris will now oversee not only our platform and channel performance but also our compliance teams headed by Elizabeth Rowlands, Director of Content Compliance and Policy, and the commissioning of Sky Kids originals led by Lucy Murphy, Director of Kids Content in the U.K. & Ireland,” Sky stated.

In the meantime, Helen Northrop, who oversees commercial matters for unscripted content, will now be supervised by Caroline Cooper. This change broadens Caroline’s responsibilities from Chief Financial Officer to Chief Operating Officer of Sky Studios and Content. This restructuring means that all business affairs, production management, systems, operations, and international financing activities related to both scripted and unscripted content will now fall under a single leadership team, as stated by Sky.

Katie Keenan, group director of acquisitions will now report directly to Frot-Coutaz.

The company is broadening the responsibilities of the Sky Studios’ Original Brands team to oversee all original scripted and high-priority unscripted productions for both Sky Studios and Content, as well as award-winning projects. Harrison Kelly, who serves as director of original brands and international marketing for studios and U.K. & Ireland content, will head this expanded team. Luke Seraphin, the head of diversity and inclusion at Sky Original Programming, will also report to Harrison in this new setup. The objective is to maintain strong collaborations with producers, talent, and the broader creative community, according to Sky’s statement.
