Skyblivion is Still Alive and Bethesda Supports The Fan-Made Project

As whispers about Oblivion Remastered spread throughout the gaming community, I, along with many fellow enthusiasts, couldn’t help but worry about the future of Skyblivion. While Bethesda has historically been a champion for mods, there was a lingering fear that they might take a page from Nintendo’s book and put an end to this fan-created masterpiece, given its alignment with their own re-release. Fortunately, it seems those concerns were unfounded.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the Skyblivion project isn’t just moving forward, but the creators have been granted game codes for the remastered version by Bethesda! This is a thoughtful gesture that I believe more AAA companies should extend towards fan projects. It’s an exciting time for us gamers!

The creators of this fan-made project expressed gratitude on social media towards Bethesda for providing them with access codes for Oblivion Remastered. Every team member received a code, and they’re appreciative that Bethesda is backing their efforts. Given previous reactions from companies like Nintendo and Capcom, it’s quite surprising to see this level of support for fan projects.

For those unacquainted, Skyblivion is an extensive fan-made overhaul of Oblivion that runs on the Skyrim game engine. This project has been underway for quite some time now and will eventually be playable within the existing Skyrim: Special Edition. Although it may not boast the visual quality of a professional remaster, there’s an impressive amount of dedication evident in its creation, and it looks fantastic when played using the Skyrim engine.

It’s always exciting to witness fan-made projects based on popular games, as they demonstrate the deep impact these games have left on fans. However, it can be disheartening when companies like Nintendo shut down projects similar to AM2R due to Metroid: Samus Returns being released for 3DS. Fortunately, Bethesda has remained steadfast in their support for mods within their games, and this recent event serves as a testament to that.

For quite some time now, Skyblivion has been under development, and its creators have announced that their target release date is 2025. Should they manage to launch it in 2021, the year 2025 promises to be an exciting one for Elder Scrolls enthusiasts.

Now, if only Elder Scrolls 6 would get a release date.
