In the beloved Superman origin story, the climax saw Clark Kent (played by Tom Welling) and Lois Lane (Erica Durance) exchanging vows. A heartwarming scene of them gazing deeply into each other’s eyes was replicated, and after 14 years, they were able to recreate that moment in a fresh photograph.
This year at Comic Con Revolution, Welling and Durance were both present, and they took a fresh photo together, replicating the same pose. In this picture, Welling is seen clutching Durance’s hands. These images are garnering much attention on social media, particularly with split-screen comparisons that remind fans of the Smallville series finale in 2011, where their characters tied the knot. Have a look at the image below.
In Smallville, the depiction of Clark Kent’s romantic relationships was distinctive. At first, his character had a romantic involvement with Lana Lang (played by Kristen Kreuk), while Lois Lane wasn’t introduced as a character for several seasons. There were speculations among fans that Lois might be replaced by Lana in this narrative, but that didn’t happen. Erica Durance first appeared as Lois Lane in the fourth season of Smallville, initially as a guest star, and then became a regular the following season. From her debut, it was probably expected by many fans that she would eventually end up with Clark, given their famous romantic pairing.
Tom Welling and Erica Durance Could Play Superman and Lois
It seems there might still be hope for the two actors reprising their roles as Superman and Lois Lane, even though the TV show “Smallville” ended in 2011. For quite some time, discussions have been ongoing about creating an animated sequel series. Many of the original voice cast members are open to returning, and fans have shown great enthusiasm for more content set in the “Smallville” universe. However, it’s thought that the release of James Gunn’s “Superman” film this year has temporarily halted other Superman projects, such as a possible Smallville animated series.
In his interview on the Talk Ville Podcast, Smallville co-creator Al Gough expressed that one major issue with projects currently under development across all studios and networks is the frequent changes in leadership. He mentioned that Warner Bros., which has experienced significant upheaval, seems to be going through another change, which unfortunately, he believes, temporarily prevents our project from being considered.
Last year at Terrificon, Welling expressed that they aim to create both a comic book and an animated series based on Smallville. However, they are still waiting for approval to proceed with the project.
Smallville is streaming on Hulu.
