Smokey Robinson and his wife, Frances Robinson, have responded with a $500 million lawsuit to the four women who accused him of sexual assault earlier this month.
In the counter-lawsuit submitted on Wednesday by attorney Christopher Frost, representing the Robinsons, it was revealed that Robinson has accused unnamed individuals (the Jane Does) of various offenses including defamation, slander, causing emotional distress, financial exploitation of the elderly, and invasion of privacy, among other allegations. The Hollywood Reporter obtained this information from the filed document.
The Robinsons never mistreated or harmed the Plaintiffs; instead, they showed them great kindness and generosity, according to the lawsuit. However, it’s unfortunate that the desire for more wealth possessed by the Plaintiffs seems limitless.
The cross-lawsuit alleges that the plaintiffs received substantial aid from the Robinsons over the years, such as several thousand dollars, financial assistance for family members of at least one plaintiff, clothing, dental care, and even a car. However, it was during a time when the Robinsons were being extremely generous that the plaintiffs, according to the suit, were secretly plotting an exploitative scheme to seize everything from the Robinsons and falsely ruin their well-deserved reputations.
Approximately three weeks following the lawsuit filed by four unidentified women who served as housekeepers for Robinson, the renowned Motown singer and record producer faced accusations of sexual assault and rape. In the court documents, these anonymous women claimed that Robinson raped them at various of his properties, with the majority of incidents taking place at his home in Chatsworth, California. The lawsuit cited numerous offenses such as negligence, sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, creating a hostile work environment, and additional charges.
In addition to being sued herself, Frances was accused of not taking sufficient steps to halt Defendant Robinson’s inappropriate behavior.
Or:
The women also brought charges against Frances for not stopping Defendant Robinson’s unacceptable conduct.
Or:
Frances was also implicated for not acting to stop Defendant Robinson’s wrongdoing, as alleged by the women.
Each of these versions convey the same meaning but in different ways to maintain variety and readability.
Robinson firmly rejected the accusations, labeling them as “vile” and “unfounded.” Previously, Frost had stated that “the evidence will demonstrate this is merely a malicious attempt to extort money from an 85-year-old American legend – specifically, $50 million.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “I’m calling their allegations false, claiming they were orchestrated by their lawyers and used as a publicity stunt during their press conference on May 6th, where these women chose to draw attention to themselves in front of the media.
Rather than receiving the requested $100 million through pre-trial negotiations, the plaintiffs chose to generate a significant amount of media attention and make a public display of their case instead,” the lawsuit stated.
In simpler terms, Robinson’s counterclaim alleges that the women intentionally withheld, disguised, and destroyed evidence to shield their illegal plan. For instance, one of the defendants is said to have seized Robinson’s mobile phone and erased all their text conversations, photos, and personal details.
In a separate incident, the lawsuit alleges that Frances found out some of her financial documents (like bank statements) were gone, and that at least one Defendant had knowledge about where these records were stored. The counter-lawsuit also mentions that another Defendant knew “the location of the Robinsons’ valuable items, such as a concealed safe and gold Krugerrands,” and that these items were later stolen. According to the lawsuit, the Robinsons reported the theft to the authorities.
On Wednesday, the attorney for the Robinsons filed a new request to disregard the original lawsuit that was filed by the women.
Or simpler:
On Wednesday, the Robinsons’ lawyer asked to discard the women’s initial lawsuit.
Both sentences convey the same meaning and are easy to understand.
THR has reached out to attorney John W. Harris, who represents the four women, for comment.
Later on, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department disclosed that they initiated a criminal probe concerning the sexual misconduct accusations leveled against Robinson. At the initial phase of the investigation, authorities reported that it was ongoing.
