Smurfing Influencer

The beloved characters, The Smurfs, are making a comeback to the cinematic universe with a fresh start, and the new version of Smurfs is noticeably distinct. Apart from Rihanna replacing Katy Perry as the voice behind Smurfette, there’s at least one novel Smurf joining the cast to breathe some new life into the franchise. Regrettably, I find it somewhat preposterous, but given that it’s in line with 2025 trends, it seems appropriate.

The lineup of forthcoming films includes several summer movies, and “Smurfs” is among them, featuring a fresh new adventure that aims to win over families across the globe by capturing their emotions, thoughts, and financial resources. Following the unveiling of the first trailer, let’s discuss this latest Smurf character and why I find myself disappointed with humanity upon witnessing the effects we have had on these little blue beings.

Smurfs Is Introducing A New Character Who Definitely Wasn’t Part Of The Original Lineup

For many years, it’s been clear that every Smurf in their village has a specific role. Smarty Smurf is knowledgeable, Strongy Smurf is powerful, and now we meet Influencer Smurf, who performs duties typical of an influencer. As you might anticipate, the latest addition to the cast quickly steals the limelight, making quite an impression in their brief appearance on screen. Take a look at a snapshot from the trailer below:

It’s surprising to me that the concept of “influencers” has become mainstream enough to be featured in an upcoming children’s movie, suggesting that kids now comprehend this term. Given that Kim Kardashian and her sisters amassed a fortune as influencers, I suppose it’s no wonder that they’ve come to hold significant power. Perhaps I’m out of touch, which is precisely why I don’t fit the bill as an influencer myself.

Influencer Smurf Aside, This Movie Has A Great Cast

I wouldn’t criticize the Smurfs too harshly regarding their influence, as the cast of this movie’s voices is simply exceptional. In fact, just observe the impressive lineup of celebrities joining this production!

  • John Goodman
  • Nick Offerman
  • Natasha Lyonne
  • Dan Levy
  • Amy Sedaris
  • Nick Kroll
  • Hannah Waddingham
  • Octavia Spencer
  • Sandra Oh
  • Kurt Russell
  • Xolo Maridueña
  • Billie Lourd
  • Alex Winter
  • James Corden
  • J.P. Karliak

I’m particularly fond of John Goodman portraying Papa Smurf, a choice that feels spot-on to me. With “The Conners” and “The Righteous Gemstones” concluding on their respective networks, it would be fantastic if we could see more of Goodman in films. Perhaps we could launch an initiative, like an Influencer Smurf campaign, to bring attention back to Goodman’s talent?

Admittedly, the trailer for the Smurfs film has sparked my curiosity as to what the storyline entails. The impression I get is that the series is venturing into a multiverse theme, similar to many contemporary productions, and we’ll explore various Smurf worlds. There’s even a moment where they appear in a video game, leading me to investigate if there have been any Smurf-themed video games. Indeed, I found that several such games exist, so I might delve into those while anticipating the release of this movie.

The movie featuring the little blue creatures known as Smurfs is set to premiere in theaters on July 18th. Make sure you don’t miss out; jot down the date on your calendar! As we get closer, perhaps Influencer Smurf will post about it on Instagram as a reminder. I must admit, the thought of following that blue character gives me chills.
