Sneak peek review of horror film ‘Piglet’

On June 2, you’ll find a movie on digital platforms that could challenge your understanding of your childhood memories and everything you thought you knew about the gang from the Christopher Robin tales.

Titled “Piglet” from The Movie Partnership, penned by Harry Boxley, and directed by Andrea M. Catinella, prepare yourself for a chilling adventure that leaves no room for your fluffy tail’s comfort. Disregard any debates about Piglet’s wardrobe, and brace yourself for a wild journey into retribution and gore. This little piggy has a bloody tale to tell, so buckle up, maybe don a raincoat and hold on tight because it’s…quite the rollercoaster ride!

Similar to the chilling tales of “Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey” and “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare”, this movie features a stellar cast including Lauren Staerck (from “Bloody Mary Returns”), Alina Desmond (“Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2”), Valery Danko (“Dancing Queen”), Shayli Reagan (“I Know What You Did Last Christmas”), Jeremy Vinogradov (“The Isle Tides Hotel”), and Alexander Butler (“The Paralytic”). These actors, veterans of the horror genre, pour every drop of spine-tingling fear and palpable terror into their performances in this film, making it a terrifying treat for us, the audience.

A secluded log cabin nestled within a forest, an abundance of liquor, passionate moments happening in various locations such as a steaming hot tub or even out in the open woods – what could possibly go amiss? Well, if you introduce a pig with unresolved issues and a troubled father into the scenario, a multitude of problems ensue! This movie is brutal, and perhaps its most terrifying aspect lies in the fact that these killings occur during daylight hours. There’s no subtlety or deception here; everything unfolds openly, whether it be on the table, the edge of the hot tub, in the shower, or…well, you get the idea – everywhere.

This movie eschews fancy techniques; instead, it presents raw, unapologetic violence. It’s intense, keeping viewers on edge, and surprisingly engaging given that it’s an independent, low-budget film about a pig-killing antagonist. In other words, it’s quite impressive for what it is.

It appears that some critics have given it unfavorable reviews. For instance, the team at Film Threat, after watching just the trailer, stated on their YouTube channel that this movie isn’t a good-bad film like some others might be. Similarly, Culture Crypt accused it of being a blatant ripoff of the previous Poohniverse films.

Instead of saying, “But I say, pop some popcorn and have a little fun,” you could rephrase as, “How about we make some popcorn and enjoy ourselves for a bit?”

For the second part, you might consider: “It may not always be high-quality or comfortable to watch, but it’s a nice escape from reality to unwind with something amusing every now and then.

Make sure you’re on the lookout for an unusual, grisly reinterpretation of a beloved childhood story arriving on digital platforms on June 6, with DVD and Blu-Ray releases following. While some may vehemently oppose its creation, if you have a penchant for the peculiar and found Winnie the Pooh endearing, this film could become an intriguing addition to your eccentric and uniquely chilling horror collection.
