2025’s March has been a bit sluggish at the box office, with even Bong Joon Ho’s first film post-Oscar-winning “Parasite,” “Mickey 17,” failing to spark much excitement upon its release earlier this month. Surprisingly, no movie managed to earn more than $10 million in last week’s Top 10. But thankfully, the drought has been broken with the arrival of Marc Webb’s “Snow White” which has been drawing crowds since its debut on Friday. As a fan, I can’t wait to see how this film unfolds!
The film industry didn’t witness a significant surge that could be termed a boom, and “Snow White” stood as a considerable challenge financially. However, the overall figures are undeniably more intriguing than anything we’ve seen this month. For a detailed look, explore the Top 10 below, and let’s delve into analysis together afterwards.
Snow White Has A Solid Opening Weekend, But Its Budget Has To Be Kept In Mind When Discussing Ticket Sales
Disney live-action remakes, including Snow White, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, and Mufasa: The Lion King, have all had budgets exceeding $200 million, with the latest ones reaching around $270 million. Given these high production costs, it’s understandable that people pay close attention to a movie’s opening weekend performance.
Considering the investment, Snow White performed well, though not exceptionally, at the box office over the past three days. As reported by The Numbers, this new release claimed the top spot in the domestic market by earning $43 million. In comparison to the franchise, this is a larger gross than Craig Gillespie’s Cruella from 2021 ($21.5 million) and surpasses what Mufasa: The Lion King made ($35.4 million) during the intensely competitive December of 2024. However, it falls short of half of what The Little Mermaid generated during the Memorial Day weekend in 2023 ($95.6 million).
It’s significant to mention that each of these titles eventually became hugely popular and managed to bring in a total of $1.5 billion globally over time.
Globally speaking, the performance of Snow White overseas is mirroring its success in the U.S. and Canada. Preliminary figures show that it has earned a whopping $44.3 million in foreign markets over the past few days, boosting its global total to an impressive $87.3 million in just three short days. As a passionate fan, I can’t wait to see where this magical journey takes us next!

The movie has been long awaited, as principal filming started back in March 2022. Critical reception has been varied. Our critic Sarah ElMahmoud awarded Snow White 3.5 stars in her TopMob review, commending Rachel Zegler’s performance in the main role, and initial audience surveys have given it a strong “B+” grade.
As a devoted fan, I firmly believe that the destiny of Snow White on the silver screen lies in the hands of the younger generation in the long run. If the film manages to captivate their hearts and minds, becoming an endless source of fascination for them, it will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact at the box office. The coming weeks, especially with no significant competition vying for the attention of its primary audience, will be crucial. Industry insiders will be closely monitoring how well our beloved movie fares during this period.
The Alto Knights Fails To Inspire Any Enthusiasm,
For Snow White, things are looking up compared to how Barry Levinson’s The Alto Knights has fared at the cinemas this weekend. While the film offers viewers a double dose of Robert De Niro for the price of one ticket, it unfortunately falls short in terms of reception. Released by Warner Bros., this gangster movie brings De Niro back to the genre that made him a household name, but critics and audiences alike seem to have turned their backs on it.
Over the weekend, The Alto Knights performed at more than 2,600 venues, but earned just $3.2 million. This disappointing figure didn’t even rank it among the Top 5 domestic box office performers. Additionally, its critical response was poorer than Snow White’s, with a 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes versus Snow White’s 43%. Audience surveys through CinemaScore gave the movie a “B” grade. The film’s initial big-screen run has not been promising, and there’s little indication that things will improve for it in the coming weeks.
Given its production budget of $45 million, it’s highly probable that The Alto Knights will be remembered as a substantial box office failure.
Black Bag Has A Strong Weekend-To-Weekend Performance While Novocaine Drops To Fifth Place
Speaking as a movie enthusiast, I must say that one title grabbing my attention this week is Steven Soderbergh’s “Black Bag.” Making its grand entrance last weekend, the gripping spy thriller featuring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett found itself in the second spot with relatively modest earnings of $7.6 million. What sets it apart is its impressive resilience, managing to maintain that position for a full week while experiencing only a 42% decrease in box office receipts.
The buzz around this film has been growing steadily, with TopMob’s Mike Reyes bestowing it with a four-and-a-half star review. It will be intriguing to observe whether this positive word of mouth will encourage it to linger in the Top 10 even beyond March’s end.
Dan Berk and Robert Olsen’s film “Novocaine” hasn’t been quite as popular. It was enjoyable to witness an original action comedy take the top spot on the domestic charts last weekend, and the Jack Quaid-led production has received positive reviews. However, it seems that its box office earnings are likely to be concentrated at the beginning. Ticket sales dropped by 57% compared to where the film stood last Sunday, earning $3.8 million since Friday. So far, the movie has grossed $15.8 million domestically.
