In a previous chat with Telegraph India, Soha shared insights about nurturing her daughter, Inaaya. She emphasized that they concentrate on activities that bring pleasure, like reading bedtime stories to Inaaya, attending boot camp sessions together, and assisting with school assignments since she’s academically inclined. Meanwhile, Kunal participates in leisure activities that he finds enjoyable.
Because Inaaya is always eager to play, Soha often feels drained, while Kunal finds it enjoyable. They distribute their parental duties according to their abilities, each considering the other’s tasks more challenging. However, this setup suits them both just fine.
Speaking about the guidance given by Sharmila Tagore, Soha noted that her contemporaries often lean towards learning from friends instead of adopting advice from their own parents. Yet, she recognized and appreciated a profound piece of wisdom shared by her mother, despite not residing with them.
As the lockdown kept us confined, I found myself constantly sending videos of my precious moments with Inaaya to my mom. It struck Sharmila how often I seemed to be completing Inaaya’s sentences and steering the conversation. She wisely suggested that I should let Inaaya voice her own thoughts instead. Taking her advice to heart, I consciously reduced my talking and increased my listening. To my delight, this simple change allowed Inaaya to articulate her authentic thoughts, rather than just mirroring what she thought I wanted to hear.
Furthermore, Sharmila warned her that it can be challenging to prevail in debates with a child of three. Inaaya was three when Soha frequently attempted to reason logically during emotional situations. However, her mother highlighted that there are appropriate times for rational thinking, and those instances were not suitable.
