Solebound is all walking, exploration and the occasional bit of pet rearing

  • Solebound is a new map-clearing AR game that takes you on a walk
  • It also allows you to rear your own animal companion as well
  • Explore and uncover the “fog of war” covering maps

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must admit that the AR gaming scene has evolved significantly since Pokemon Go’s heyday. Yet, every now and then, a newcomer like Solebound catches my eye, especially when it promises to make walking fun!

When it comes to making walking fun it seems like only a few years ago that Pokemon Go was the most world-beating example we had. But now, years on the AR game that puts you in real-world geography is almost quaint. Still, there’s always space for one more, and the latest example is Solebound!

In contrast to many other games, Solebound features a relatively uncomplicated backdrop. You navigate your surroundings by traversing the map on foot and revealing previously obscured areas. You can challenge other players through leaderboards, and for added motivation, you’ll have a digital pet friend accompanying you throughout your journey.

This adorable creature can be adorned, its skills enhanced, and so much more awaits! You will have the chance to explore a global map, discovering where you’ve adventured. Interacting with famous landmarks will further empower your pet companion’s abilities! Take a peek at the trailer below for a deeper look into Solebound.

These boots were made for walkin’

I do like the idea behind Solebound (and I’m a little ashamed for not instantly getting the pun) but I am somewhat disappointed there doesn’t seem to be much more to the concept. Admittedly I think the AR game is something that could cover a whole bunch of niches, so I can see some people wanting to pick up a game that encourages them to walk but doesn’t have a bunch of colorful cartoon monsters constantly pestering them to battle.

In any case, you can find Solebound out now on the iOS App Store and Google Play!
