As a fan who has closely followed Bridget Everett’s journey since her early days in Manhattan, Kansas, I can say with confidence that the third and final season of Somebody Somewhere is a bittersweet moment for me. The trailer for this season promises more of the heartfelt humor and authentic portrayal of small-town life that we’ve come to love, set against some challenging circumstances for Sam, as her partner Joel prepares to move.
For the third and last season of “Somebody Somewhere,” HBO summarizes it succinctly as “witnessing growth in spite of overwhelming challenges.” The teaser trailer hints at the origins of some of these significant obstacles.
In the preview (give it a watch), the character Sam (played by Bridget Everett) grapples with new developments in her life. As Joel (Jeff Hiller), who she cohabits with, receives an offer on his home and plans to relocate, she finds herself seeking answers about her own path. At one point in the clip, Sam confesses her confusion: “I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing,” she admits. She then poses a poignant query: “Is there something wrong with desiring just a little bit more?
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the humor sprinkled throughout the trailer for this new show, “Somebody Somewhere“, even though it may not be your typical laugh-out-loud sitcom. Yet, it carries an authentic warmth that resonates deeply with its characters, which is beautifully emphasized by the music track “Ooh La La” by The Faces.
HBO announced back in August that it’s wrapping up the critically lauded show “Somebody Somewhere” after three seasons. Previously, Everett – who is both the writer and executive producer of this series – spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, sharing that people from her hometown, Manhattan, Kansas, have appreciated how she’s authentically depicted life in a small city through the show.
At various instances, both the person responsible for queer studies at Kansas State and the head basketball coach approached me to express their appreciation for the show, said Everett. Finding it incredibly gratifying that individuals from such diverse backgrounds could identify with the series and respond positively to it was a heartening experience. It’s always disheartening when your hometown perceives you negatively or thinks unfavorably of you.
Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen are the creators of Somebody Somewhere. They serve as executive producers along with Everett, Carolyn Strauss (under her Mighty Mint label), Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass, Mel Eslyn from Duplass Brothers Productions, and Tyler Romary. Shuli Harel is the producer for season three. The writers for this season include Bos and Thureen, Everett, Lisa Kron, and Lennon Parham. Jay Duplass, Robert Cohen, and Parham are the directors.
