Sonam Kapoor admits to putting on 15 kilos during pregnancy and going back to her ‘heaviest ever’: 'I wanted to become mom so badly'

As a lifestyle expert, I have had the privilege of observing and learning from many inspiring individuals throughout my career. One such individual is Sonam Kapoor, the renowned Bollywood actress who has recently opened up about her experiences with motherhood, marriage, and body image.

Sonam Kapoor is widely recognized as one of Bollywood’s leading actresses. She exchanged marital vows with Anand Ahuja in 2018, and they are now delighted parents to a young son named Vayu. In a recent interview, Sonam shared her thoughts on adapting to motherhood and dealing with body image concerns.

Sonam Kapoor talks about embracing motherhood

In an interview with The Dirty Magazine, Sonam Kapoor mentioned that when she became pregnant at the age of 36, she had to consume a significant amount of progesterone. During the initial three months, she gained around 15 kilos, which continued to rise. Kapoor expressed that this was the heaviest she had ever been. She disclosed that it took her a full year and a half to shed those extra pounds.

The actress explained, with obvious joy in her voice, “I’ve taken a step back from the spotlight to devote myself wholeheartedly to motherhood. It was something I deeply desired and have been eagerly waiting for. Over the past two years, I’ve focused on being the best mom I can be. I’m fortunate to have a great support system, but I want to be involved in every aspect of my child’s life.” She also shared her personal feeling, admitting that there’s a sense of relief and fulfillment in finally becoming a mother, despite starting later than some might have planned.

Sonam Kapoor speaks highly of her husband Anand Ahuja

Sonam acknowledged that Anand Ahuja had been an equal partner, supporting her and sharing all responsibilities throughout their journey together.

Her husband’s affection for her remains strong after nine years, as she humbly admits, “Really? We’ve been married for nine years. I’m still deeply in love with him. People often remark on how much he adores me. I do love him back, but he has a gentler disposition. I consider myself more reserved. I feel fortunate to have found such a kind man.”

Sonam Kapoor on dealing with body-image issues

As an obsessed fan, I can tell you this: The Raanjhanaa actress revealed something personal during an interview. She confided that, despite being a famous movie star, she, too, grapples with body image concerns. In fact, she admitted that the constant self-examination is even more intense in her line of work. Instead of focusing on what others think, she emphasized that it’s the internal scrutiny that really matters.

Sonam explained how she’s experienced growing up in the public eye since her teenage years. She’s witnessed her own transformation as her physical appearance changed. Using the word “challenging,” the actress shared that this process was difficult for her. “I wouldn’t call it a struggle, but there have certainly been challenges,” she added.

Last seen in 2019’s The Zoya Factor, Sonam has Rhea Kapoor’s Battle Of Bittora in the pipeline.
