Sonam Kapoor reveals being shown Kajol’s photo after she was ‘traumatized’ by trolling over facial hair: ‘I had people tell me she’s Anil Kapoor’s…’

As a dedicated follower and admirer of Sonam Kapoor‘s journey, I find her story incredibly inspiring. Growing up, I too faced similar struggles with self-acceptance and societal pressures, and Sonam’s tale resonates deeply with me. Her experiences are a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of embracing one’s unique features.

16-year-old Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor, renowned for her style, didn’t always exude the same self-assuredness. In a recent disclosure, she spoke about how online bullying over weight gain, facial hair, and other physical changes deeply impacted her. Often, people would comment that she should resemble her father Anil Kapoor more, setting unrealistic beauty standards for her. It was her mother who presented Sonam with a photo of Kajol with a unibrow, which served as inspiration for her to accept and love her own looks.

At Barkha Dutt’s We The Women conference, Sonam Kapoor reminisced about her past challenges, discussing openly her experience with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and its influence during her teenage years, as reported by News 18. She detailed how, at the age of 16, she encountered weight gain, acne, and excessive facial hair – a time when society often demands you to appear most attractive.

Beyond the bodily transformations, the blind actress faced unkind remarks, as people criticized her looks and made connections to her father, Anil Kapoor. She shared that she had facial hair and experienced acne, while dealing with comments like “oh, she’s Anil Kapoor’s daughter.” Strange instances of internet trolling were a part of her experience too.

Although faced with difficulties, Sonam underscored that the problems were merely transient, given that hormonal fluctuations are usual during teenage years. She managed to conquer these challenges, albeit the encounter left an indelible mark on her. However, she admitted, “I was deeply affected by it.

The trendsetter reminisced about her mom motivating her to celebrate her distinct traits, particularly when she showed her a photo of Kajol sporting a unibrow. She mentioned that during those days, Kajol was an enormous star, and her mother emphasized how boldly Kajol carried off her natural appearance.

Sonam Kapoor recalled her mother displaying a photo of Kajol and commenting, “See her! She’s the most prominent actress at the moment,” which sparked within Sonam a sense of inspiration. She came to understand that beauty lies in self-acceptance rather than adhering to societal norms.

The actress revealed that when she was 17, Sanjay Leela Bhansali discovered her and this experience made her understand the significance of staying authentic and setting an example. Looking back on Kajol’s impact, she acknowledged that although it wasn’t intentional, Kajol’s brave actions during her time inadvertently influenced her choices.
