When Sega acquired Rovio, it was widely anticipated that there would be many new game releases. However, I believe it’s safe to say that not many people expected these releases to come so quickly, especially given the recent unexpected soft launch of Sonic Blitz in the Philippines!

Sonic Blitz clearly distinguishes itself, as it diverges significantly from something like Sonic Rumble, which is a Fall Guys-style battle royale. To explain, Sonic Blitz appears to be a new direction for the Sonic franchise, being a deckbuilding card battler that focuses on collecting cards featuring your favorite Sonic characters.

Although Sonic Blitz is categorized as a card battler, it doesn’t lag in speed. In fact, it offers thrilling three-minute matches that are dynamic, with frequently changing rules. This means that grasping the basics will take only minutes, but the fun it provides for you and your friends could span hours.

It’s quite obvious where Rovio might have found inspiration for Sonic Blitz. The cards you collect are shown in intricate 3D designs, promising a realistic experience, much like the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. Additionally, the three-minute matches are no longer unique, but were heavily emphasized in mobile games like Marvel Snap, another branded card battler.

Sonic Blitz also features an exclusive mechanic known as the Dash attack, which showcases unique animations for each card. Regrettably, no details have been provided regarding a global launch yet.
