Sony Signs Theatrical Pact with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Artists Equity

Sony is now the theatrical home for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity.

In simple terms, Sony has entered into a three-year deal with Artists Equity, whereby Sony will be responsible for distributing Artists Equity’s movies worldwide. These films will be funded by Sony, and they will also manage all additional rights (ancillaries). Artists Equity retains the option to contribute financially to specific projects if they choose to do so.

Tom Rothman, head of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, stated, “With Ben and Matt’s team aiming for the top in the movie theater market, we consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to collaborate with them. We eagerly anticipate creating many successful movies together.

As a filmmaker, it’s a privilege to craft tales that find their way into the mystical, communal space we call the cinema. Here, strangers gather to share intimate stories on a screen, merging our imaginations in a shared dreamscape. I’m thankful for the chance to distribute these movies worldwide, partnering with the brilliant Sony team to make this global storytelling possible.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited about the upcoming projects from my team, Artists Equity, led by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Gerry Cardinale from RedBird Capital. We’ve got some thrilling movies in the pipeline, like “RIP,” where Ben and Matt will star, and “Animals,” which Ben will direct – both destined for Netflix. Despite our theatrical agreement with Sony, we’re still committed to creating and producing content for streaming platforms as well.

More recently, Artists Equity has collaborated with Amazon to launch “The Accountant 2”. The film generated a worldwide box office revenue of $102 million. Other projects include “The Instigators”, directed by Doug Liman, for Apple TV+, and the musical “The Kiss of the Spider Woman” by Bill Condon, set to be released via Lionsgate on October 10th.
