In the aftermath of their fruitful partnership on Olivia Rodrigo x LinkBuds S in the previous year, Sony and Rodrigo debuted two additional custom-made items in the year 2024.
As an ardent fan, I had the thrill of collaborating closely with Sony and my producer, Dan Nigro, to design exclusive Olivia Rodrigo x LinkBuds Fit and LinkBuds Open models, keeping our beloved ‘Livies’ in focus every step of the way. These earbuds are specially tuned using custom EQ settings, offering an exceptional listening experience tailored for her two blockbuster albums, SOUR and GUTS. And to reflect Olivia’s unique style, they come in her signature color – a captivating violet that has been a part of her creative universe since childhood. This color signifies magic, mystery, and the enchanting beauty of nature, making these earbuds truly special for fans like me!
Sony fully committed to their partnership by launching a vibrant ad campaign, creatively designed with Rodrigo, showcasing her navigating New York City’s subway (filmed at the New York Transit Museum). Directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, this campaign encapsulates the city’s essence and energy while demonstrating how LinkBuds seamlessly blend into Rodrigo’s lifestyle as a young New Yorker. The partnership even extended to collaborate with the MTA, a renowned symbol of the city, for a limited-edition MetroCard showcasing Rodrigo sporting her purple LinkBuds Fit – one of the final custom MetroCards ever, as the MTA transitions towards contactless technology.
As an extra touch, Sony held a special VIP event on December 3rd in New York City for custom LinkBuds designed by Rodrigo. They transformed a former subway station in the Lower East Side into a fantastical purple realm, filled with interactive activities and references to the city’s renowned MTA system. Fans were treated to unique merchandise, had their portraits drawn by a street artist, and even received tarot readings linking them to Rodrigo’s “obsessed” music video sashes.
