Following the release of Sony Corporation’s earnings report in Tokyo, its stock price on the New York Stock Exchange climbed due to strong performances by its audio and gaming sectors.
This quarter, Sony’s music division, which includes albums from artists like Tyler the Creator, Bad Bunny, and Beyoncé with her Grammy-winning album “Cowboy Carter,” experienced a significant growth. Sales for the division increased by 14% compared to the same period last year, and operating income surged by 28%. This rise is attributed to higher revenues from major streaming services in both recorded music and music publishing.
Sadahiko Hayakawa, Sony’s financial head, stated during a conference call that the surge of streaming platforms is opening up new chances for music from homegrown talents to go global. He added that Sony Music Group is making efforts to amplify local content by identifying and cultivating talent in emerging markets through their operations.
Simultaneously, Sony Pictures‘ television division experienced a decrease in series deliveries, while its motion picture catalog product licensing revenues fell as well. However, the film division, which released titles like Venom: The Last Dance (grossing $478 million globally), saw a 9% rise in sales compared to last year, largely due to the inclusion of the boutique chain Alamo Drafthouse.
However, there was a 18% drop in operating income from one year to another, mainly attributed to an escalation in marketing expenses related to theatrical releases, as stated by Sony’s finance chief during the call. Coming soon from Sony Pictures is the movie Paddington In Peru, set to premiere in U.S. theaters this Friday.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share some insights from our latest update: Although the wildfires in California have had a minor effect on our overall outcomes thus far, they’ve caused a slight disruption. Specifically, the theatrical releases of the upcoming “Spider-Man” and “Jumanji” movies, slated for 2027, have been pushed back to align with our fiscal year ending March 31, 2027. However, I’m glad to report that production activity is picking up speed once more. As for television productions, the impact of the strikes on new show productions has largely stabilized now.
The upcoming Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, currently without a title, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 24, 2026. Meanwhile, Jumanji 3 with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan is slated for release by Sony Pictures on December 11, 2026.

The next Spider-Man movie featuring Tom Holland, titled as of yet, will be out in theaters on July 24, 2026. On the other hand, Jumanji 3 starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan is expected to premiere by Sony Pictures on December 11, 2026.
In terms of gaming, we saw a 16% surge in quarterly sales. Additionally, monthly active users on PlayStation systems reached 129 million accounts, marking a 5% growth compared to the same period last year. The team is gearing up for the releases of “Ghost of Yōtei” and the sequel to “Death Stranding”, which are expected in 2025. Moreover, they managed to sell 9.5 million PlayStation consoles during this quarter.
