Sookshmadarshini, Marco, Rifle Club OTT Release Update: Filmmaker Listin Stephen explains the reason behind delay

There’s been plenty of excitement building up about the OTT premiere of the critically acclaimed mystery thriller from Mollywood, Sookshmadarshini, starring Nazriya Nazim and Basil Joseph. Additionally, films like Marco and Rifle Club are eagerly anticipated as they prepare for their television debuts. In a recent interview, renowned Indian producer Listin Stephen offered some insights into the reasons behind the postponements in the digital releases of movies. Keep reading!

During an interview upon the release of his film ED, Listen Stephen discussed the delayed release of several films such as Sookshmadarshini, Marco, and Rifle Club on OTT platforms. As stated by the Indian producer, many movies, even those featuring big-name actors, opt for the pay-per-view method. Earlier, there was a specific range or income level at which movies conducted business within the OTT industry, as mentioned in an article by OTT Play. However, he noted that in today’s climate, no producer can accurately predict how much their film will earn on these platforms.

Later on, he provided instances of upcoming 2024 films such as Premalu, Manjummel Boys, ARM, and Sookshmadarshini, stating that it was only following their premiere that the OTT contracts for these movies were sealed. To clarify, there are still no OTT deals finalized for several recently released films. Previously, Sharif Muhammed, the producer of Unni Mukundan’s Marco, declared in a statement that the streaming rights for the action thriller movie have not been acquired by any platform yet.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to bring up an unfortunate incident concerning the film Sookshmadarshini. In two separate incidents, this movie has found its way onto the internet prematurely. MC Jithin, the filmmaker, confirmed that the HD version of the film was initially leaked on Telegram. Their dedicated anti-piracy team swiftly took it down, but unfortunately, the damage was already done.

Just a few days ago, we received word that the movie had been uploaded to YouTube as well. We acted promptly to have it removed, but by then, it had garnered over 10,000 views. It’s quite astonishing to see such swift online leaks happening twice for our film. Yesterday, I was disheartened to learn that the film was again available on unauthorized platforms.

The high-anticipated dark comedy mystery thriller was released on big screens on November 22, 2024.
