Actress Sophia Bush claimed that she experienced various forms of abusive behavior during the production of a TV series.
The long-time star from ‘One Tree Hill’ voiced the statements on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast ‘Reclaiming,’ which aired on Tuesday.
Bush didn’t explicitly mention the title, but hinted at it by providing details like the time she departed from the series (her departure was marked by a specific date). This suggests that she could be referring to her tenure on the popular NBC police drama Chicago P.D., where she portrayed Detective Erin Lindsay. She appeared in 84 episodes before leaving and has earlier described her time there as demanding.
Following the wonderful world of ‘One Tree Hill’, I was eager for what lay ahead. I dove into a comedy role I adored for CBS, then pursued a show that had always been on my wishlist. But suddenly, life took an unexpected turn. I found myself grappling with an ongoing workplace issue involving someone significantly older than me, leaving me to question, ‘What’s going on here?’
As a curious onlooker, I wondered if Bush was alluding to a questionable professional or romantic involvement we shared, and if by “emotional abuse,” he meant something else entirely.
Bush stated, ‘Professional, yet also abusive.’ In hindsight, he had the chance to leave after two years, but instead, he chose to uphold his integrity. He decided he wouldn’t let someone else’s actions affect him. He vowed to remain calm and focused on his work.
For the next two years, Bush described his experience as a living nightmare. He endured unexpected illnesses, woke up with unexplained rashes, experienced dramatic weight changes, watched his hair thin, battled insomnia, felt debilitating anxiety despite being an outgoing person who thrives on social interaction, and was plagued by anxiety that made even casual contact in public unbearable. He found himself unable to talk to strangers or bear being looked at. His daily life became a constant state of preparation for confrontation, as he learned to shield himself from unwanted touch.
Bush stated that she parted ways with the series back in April 2017, just prior to the emergence of the #MeToo movement. In October of the same year, she claims she received a remorseful phone call from a high-ranking official.
She mentioned she received a call from an executive expressing regret for their actions and omissions. The executive admitted they were fortunate to have avoided any significant consequences. She replied, ‘I’m grateful things worked out for you. I’ve been dealing with a lot in therapy, including a diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It’s just great that your team didn’t face media scrutiny, that’s terrific.’
As a gamer, I’ve shared my vivid gaming experiences with others, only to see the shock and disbelief etched on their faces. It dawned on me then, “Wow, I’m not imagining things. I was just in a world where nobody wanted to listen because it challenged the status quo.
NBC didn’t provide an immediate response, while former President Bush reappeared on TV this season, appearing as a recurring character on the ABC series “Grey’s Anatomy”.
