As a seasoned gamer and music enthusiast with a penchant for indie artists, I must admit, the latest move by SoundCloud has caught my attention. Coming from someone who’s been on the journey of supporting independent creators, the prospect of a merch store without upfront costs is like striking gold in a digital world.
SoundCloud has introduced a fresh method for artists to engage with their audience and generate income from their fanbase by setting up a merchandise store.
In simpler terms, the newly introduced SoundCloud Store functions as a marketplace where artists can create and offer unique merchandise for purchase, much like how artists can sell merchandise within their Spotify profiles.
The primary attraction of the SoundCloud store lies in the absence of initial costs for artists, making it especially attractive for independent acts. Artists have the freedom to design their own merchandise, with SoundCloud handling production and shipping internally. Additionally, SoundCloud doesn’t claim any portion of the profits from merchandise sales, which further enhances its appeal.
Only certain individuals are eligible to take part in the SoundCloud Store. To qualify, artists must subscribe to SoundCloud’s Next Pro plan, which costs $99 USD annually. Additionally, the artist should be based in the United States, Canada, or Europe, and they must own all rights to their merchandise.
Initially available to a limited group of musicians, the shop now showcases merchandise by artists like Wiz Khalifa, Denzel Curry, Armani White, among others. Furthermore, SoundCloud has introduced its own collection of clothing and caps displaying their brand logo.
