8 villains are reportedly set to make an appearance in the upcoming “Spider-Man 4”, titled “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start”. The film, starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. Sadie Sink, a new addition to the series, will be joining the cast in an unspecified role. However, it remains a mystery who Spider-Man’s nemesis in the movie will be.
The rumor mill continues to spin, producing one name after another as a possible villain for “Spider-Man 4.” Names ranging from classic characters who have appeared before to highly acclaimed actors have surfaced in discussions about the next big bad. However, no official statement has been released regarding this matter at present.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming Spider-Man film, titled “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start” (or “Spider-Man 4”), will be helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”. In this new chapter, we’ll join Tom Holland’s Peter Parker as he navigates life as an ordinary, college-aged New Yorker, hiding a secret identity that’s not so ordinary.
In the upcoming movie, I’ll be reprising my MJ character, and it looks like J.K. Simmons will once again take on the role of J. Jonah Jameson. There’s also a mysterious part for Sadie Sink that hasn’t been officially revealed yet. Some speculate she might be playing Mayday Parker, but we’ll have to wait and see!
Every Villain Rumored to Appear in Spider-Man 4
Mr. Negative
In the persistent discussions about the villain for Spider-Man 4, a figure named Mr. Negative consistently surfaces. As per Jeff Sneider’s reports from The Hot Mic, it appears that Martin Li/Mr. Negative will serve as the main adversary in Brand New Day, facing off against Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker.
Regarding who will take on the character, that’s a separate topic of discussion. Some have proposed that actor Steven Yeun from ‘The Walking Dead’ might be a potential choice, while Steven OYoung, the voice actor for the character in ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ video game, has also expressed interest.
Martin Li, also known as Mr. Negative, is a recently introduced character in the Spider-Man comic book series. He made his debut in the 2007 issue of Free Comic Book Day (Spider-Man). In the comics, he presents himself as a wealthy New York philanthropist who runs a well-known charity called FEAST. However, behind this charitable facade lies an energy-manipulating supervillain. His appearance is reminiscent of a photographic negative, which sets him apart from other characters.
Unknown Female Villain (Sarah Snook)
One of the less concrete Spider-Man villain whispers circulating, with no specific character assigned yet, is the major rumor about Sarah Snook. Additionally, according to industry insider Jeff Sndeider, Marvel Studios is said to be considering the actress from Succession for a secondary significant antagonist role in an upcoming film.
According to rumors from source Daniel Richtman, the film is reportedly seeking a female antagonist aged between 30s and 50s, regardless of ethnicity. Although no specific character has been linked to these whispers, fans have already started suggesting potential actresses for who the mysterious Snook could portray this role.
Others speculate that she might be the genetically enhanced character known as Spider-Queen or Adriana Soria, a former marine whose body contains insect DNA. This biological makeup grants her abilities such as shape-shifting, telepathy, and the release of a harmful Enzyme that bestows spider-like powers on others.
Scorpion
During a recent Disney Consumer Product presentation, it was hinted that one of the villains from the movie list who previously made a comeback is the fearsome Scorpion. This character was initially suggested towards the end of the 2017 film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Michael Mando from Better Call Saul taking on the role.
Approximately ten years have passed since we last heard from the Scorpion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there’s speculation that Spider-Man 4 could be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce this character. The latest buzz even suggests that Scorpion, along with Boomerang and Tombstone, might appear as potential adversaries in the forthcoming film.
Mac Gargan, also known as the Scorpion, is a longtime criminal adversary of Spider-Man. He is renowned for his distinctive, vibrantly green scorpion-inspired armor suit, complete with a lethal cybernetic stinger.
Boomerang
Based on rumors circulating, if Spider-Man 4 indeed features multiple adversaries for Peter Parker to face off against, Boomerang could be an excellent choice. In a recent Disney Consumer Product presentation in late May, it’s been suggested that this character might make an appearance, hinting at some exciting developments for the highly anticipated superhero sequel.
In a similar vein, Fredrick Myers, together with Scorpion and Tombstone, was introduced as characters during the production process. It’s possible that he may assume a secondary role in the film, acting as a henchman to Michael Mando’s Scorpion (much like the character Shocker in Spider-Man: Homecoming). Instead of being the primary antagonist himself, he might be part of a supervillain team.
In the comics, Boomerang used to be a professional baseball player. After his sports career ended abruptly, he was given an opportunity for atonement when he was enlisted into a clandestine group called the Secret Organization. Within this group, he was equipped with boomerang-like weaponry, specifically designed to utilize his pitching arm, due to his past experience.
Tombstone
At Disney’s recent product presentation, it was reported that Tombstone (also known as Lonnie Lincoln) was the third villain discussed. This less well-known Spider-Man antagonist has made appearances in various Spidey productions, including the recently debuted “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” series. Yet, he hasn’t been featured in a project as prominent as “Spider-Man 4” before.
In the event Marvel Studios decides to emphasize a grittier, urban Spider-Man storyline for “Brand New Day”, Tombstone might prove an excellent fit.
Despite possessing unusual traits such as his almost indestructible hide, Tombstone serves as a formidable criminal kingpin operating in New York City. Thus, he provides an ideal, down-to-earth antagonist for Spider-Man (Holland’s webhead) to confront.
Tarantula
According to reports from the May 2025 Disney Merchandising Conference, it seems likely that Spider-Man 4 could be forming a team of supervillains for its upcoming release. One member reportedly part of this team is Tarantula, as suggested by sources at the event. (via Reddit)
Until now, tarantulas haven’t appeared in any Spider-Man movie, but it would be intriguing if they were introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) lore by Marvel Studios.
In the story, Tarantula is a character who was once a terrorist and later became a mercenary. After being discarded by the authoritarian government he served, he finds refuge in New York City.
Savage Hulk
In the upcoming film “Spider-Man 4,” there is a possibility that Spiderman may encounter an adversary who was previously considered a friend among the Avengers. The moniker Savage Hulk has been whispered in various spots as a leading candidate for the main villain, with Mark Ruffalo reprising his role once more.
Similar to numerous entries on this list, the idea about Savage Hulk stems from a report shared by someone who attended Disney’s Consumer Product presentation in May 2025. The report hinted at the return of the less jovial green colossus, departing from the Smart Hulk character that fans have recently become accustomed to, and it is suggested that Peter Parker/Spider-Man will have to deal with the repercussions.
For those who might not know, Savage Hulk represents Hulk’s most dangerous and fearsome shape. Typically, he operates without any self-restraint, making him a major threat not only to his enemies but also to the safety of bystanders who could unwittingly find themselves in harm’s way.
Kingpin
Among the most frequently discussed potential villains for “Spider-Man 4” is the character Kingpin, portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio. In the Marvel Comics, Kingpin/Wilson Fisk and Spider-Man have had a long-standing rivalry, and many fans have been eager to see these characters interact in a movie setting for quite some time.
Discussions about D’Onofrio’s Marvel character initially emerged during talks for Spider-Man 4, as it was mentioned that the upcoming wall-crawler sequel aimed to delve into a more down-to-earth narrative following the multiverse-related antics in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But as time went on and reports suggested that the new Spider-Man film would encompass a larger scope, Kingpin has apparently taken a back seat.
If given the chance, D’Onofrio expressed his desire to portray Kingpin in Spider-Man 4. However, due to rights issues concerning the character, it seems unlikely that this will come to pass.
