Kevin Feige, head at Marvel Studios, has dished out significant backstage information about the forthcoming movie titled “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start“.
Feige recently revealed information on several upcoming Marvel films in a roundtable discussion in Los Angeles for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Given that Spider-Man: Fresh Start is scheduled to start filming this summer, he was probed about the superhero’s sequel where Tom Holland will once again play Peter Parker/Spider-Man following 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In the final scenes of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange wiped everyone’s memory about Peter Parker to safeguard the multiverse. With no one left to confide in after this drastic shift, the movie concluded with the MCU’s Spider-Man growing more like his comic book counterpart, living in a modest apartment and crafting his own Spider-Man costume. Many spectators interpreted this as a hint that the next Spider-Man film would follow a street-level narrative. However, it was later revealed that Sony desired another multiverse film, while Feige and Holland favored a street-level story. Although the Punisher, a street-level vigilante, joined the cast, the specific direction of “Brand New Day” remained undecided by Marvel until recently.
What did Kevin Feige reveal about Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
In a recent discussion, Feige suggested that at the end of “No Way Home,” Peter Parker might find himself forgotten by everyone he knows. Despite this sad reality, we’ll see for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man series, a more self-reliant Spidey. He’ll be focused on protecting the city and dealing with everyday criminal activities, rather than the world-threatening events that occurred during his collaborations with other characters. Essentially, the story will resemble 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” set in New York City and taking a more grounded approach, as Feige referred to it as “Brand New Day.
Feige further explained the reason for including Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in Brand New Day. He said, “When deciding who else would be a good fit, we asked ourselves, ‘Who are the other street-level characters that The Punisher hasn’t interacted with before?’ Since The Punisher originated from a Spider-Man comic, it was natural for us to consider him. I can’t reveal too much, but I will say that Destin is doing an outstanding job on the movie right now. Filming begins soon, and he has 8 to 9 comic covers displayed in his art department, which he’s bringing to life in this film. It’s incredibly exciting!
In addition to Holland, Bernthal, Sadie Sink, and Liza Colón-Zayas (whose roles are not specified), the cast for Spider-Man: Brand New Day includes some notable actors. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are anticipated to return as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Ned Leeds, respectively, although the specifics of their involvement have yet to be revealed. There are rumors about Mark Ruffalo reprising his character, Bruce Banner/Hulk, but Marvel has not confirmed this yet.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
