Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Rumored Potential Reason for Delay

As a lifelong fan of Spider-Man, I must say that the continuous delays of “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” have left me hanging like a web-head on a gossamer thread. It seems as though the release date for this highly anticipated film has been pushed back more times than Peter Parker’s science projects in high school.

It’s almost become customary to say that the release of “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” is being delayed again. Originally planned by Sony Pictures for a theater release this year, “Across the Spider-Verse” would have preceded it, and discussions about a fourth film might already be underway. However, the third installment has been pushed back indefinitely from its initial March 2024 release date without a new one being set yet. The film was initially slated for a swift release, appearing in theaters less than a year after “Across the Spider-Verse” premiered mid-2023. Despite fans eagerly waiting for a release date for “Beyond the Spider-Verse”, recent gossip hints that we may have to wait even longer for positive updates.

Based on information from film tipster The InSneider, it appears that fans might have to wait until 2027 before they can catch Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in cinemas. Interestingly, the latest report indicates that Sony Pictures is restarting much of the production for Beyond the Spider-Verse, as the project has gone through a significant creative transformation.

It turns out that the reason for the delay in releasing “Beyond the Spider-Verse” is because there may be a conflict with the planned release of “Spider-Man 4”. Yesterday, it was announced that Destin Daniel Cretton, director of “Shang-Chi”, will helm “Spider-Man 4”. As of now, no official release date has been set for the upcoming untitled Spider-Man film, but Sony Pictures have reportedly decided to postpone “Beyond the Spider-Verse” again due to concerns that it might interfere with the release of “Spider-Man 4”.

Beyond the Spider-Verse Composer Responds to Delay Rumors

Despite the persistent speculation about another delay for Beyond the Spider-Verse due to a supposed “creative revamp,” it’s worth considering that these rumors might not be accurate. Daniel Pemberton, the film’s composer, has publicly challenged this claim on X, suggesting through his retweet that there may have been some exaggeration or misinformation regarding the creative overhaul. While he didn’t explicitly deny the delay or the possibility of changes to the project, his tweet implies that the rumors about a creative revamp could be unfounded.

It’s unclear to what extent the “creative revamp” has influenced the making of the movie, or if it even happened at all. Last month, Karan Soni provided Spider-Verse fans with the most recent update on the upcoming film. The actor, who voices Pavitr Prabhajar, aka Spider-Man India, mentioned that voice recording will commence soon. Moreover, he noted that creating animation usually requires more time than producing a live-action movie. He stated:

In a few months, we’ll begin recording for the movie I’ve been eagerly anticipating. This production is already in full swing. Since it’s an animation project, the process is unique and requires more time. When it’s completed and released, I’ll be thrilled to see it. Playing that character was one of my greatest pleasures, so I can’t wait for another opportunity to reprise the role.
