Over a decade has passed since the initial screening of “Spring Breakers” in 2012, and now, this cult favorite is set to receive a follow-up. Penned and helmed by Harmony Korine, “Spring Breakers” tells the tale of Candy, Faith, Brit, and Cotty – cash-strapped college students who resort to robbing a Florida diner to fund their spring break adventure. However, their plans go awry when they are apprehended by law enforcement. Fortunately, Allen, a drug dealer and rap artist, intervenes and grants them bail, leading them down the path of criminal activities instead.
A follow-up to the original Spring Breakers movie, titled Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain, has been announced. However, it’s worth noting that this new film might be a letdown for fans of the first one because it won’t feature the same cast as before, which included Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, and Gucci Mane. Instead, the sequel will introduce an entirely new cast and a different director.
Actors Bella Thorne (“The Duff”, “Scream: The TV Series”), Grace Van Dien, True Whitaker (“Godfather of Harlem”), and Ariel Martin (“Zombies: The Re-Animated Series”) will feature in a new film titled “Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain”. Matthew Bright (“Freeway”), who takes over from original director Harmony Korine, will direct the sequel. Interestingly, the original producers of “Spring Breakers”, Chris Hanley from Muse Productions and Jordan Gertner, are still involved with this upcoming project.
“A Bold New Ride”
Four actresses will portray a band of “unruly teenagers going on a spring break road trip.” This upcoming crime thriller promises an exhilarating journey tailored for Generation Z. In the movie Salvation Mountain, the storyline unfolds as follows: “As their vacation spirals out of control, they find themselves racing to escape the turmoil they’ve caused.”
During the Spring Break season, a fresh collaboration between Capstone Global and Signature Entertainment called Capture will kick off sales for the movie titled “Salvation Mountain” in Cannes. This film is being financed by Capstone Studios, with global distribution responsibilities handled by Ella Field, Asia Muci, Emilie Barra, and Nathan Wang from Capture.
The Producers are “Thrilled”
As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the collaboration between Hanley, Gertner, Christian, and Capture on the upcoming film, “Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain.” This project taps into our shared passion for daring, groundbreaking narratives that delve into the unbridled, dreamlike essence of youth. Frankly, the thought of spring break never ending is a dream I’ve always held onto.

A Sequel Was Planned in 2014
Initially released as “Spring Breakers,” the film garnered a global revenue of $32 million despite being made on a budget of only $5 million. Surprisingly, it gained cult status regardless. At Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a 67% approval rating among critics, but a significantly lower 38% from audiences.
Back in 2014, I was thrilled about the announcement of Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, a sequel with an intriguing premise – it was going to delve into Christian extremism. Jonas Åkerlund was set to direct, with Irvine Welsh writing the script. Unfortunately, by 2017, the film was put on hold and instead, we were looking forward to a digital series. However, even that didn’t materialize as planned.
For now, fans of the original Spring Breakers can rent the film on digital platforms.
