Squid Game Season 3 is happening – and there’s plenty that we know so far.

When the initial season of “Squid Game” premiered in 2021, it swept across the globe and undeniably set the record as Netflix’s most popular binge-worthy series. It felt like the show was everywhere, and three years later, in 2024, we were finally rewarded with Season 2. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long for “Squid Game” Season 3 – its final season.

If you’re curious about where Gi-hun’s journey goes from here, let me fill you in on what has transpired thus far. In case you haven’t been following along, you can easily catch up by streaming seasons 1 and 2, which are available with a Netflix subscription.

What Is The Squid Game Season 3 Premiere Date?

It’s been verified that Squid Game Season 3 will make its debut sometime in the year 2025. This implies it will be featured on the upcoming television premiere schedule for 2025. While a specific release date hasn’t been set, there have been numerous speculations suggesting that it may air during the summer months. However, these are just theories, as no official confirmation has been made yet. Even the Squid Game’s official page shared a teaser hinting at its 2025 arrival.

This year promises a plethora of fresh Netflix TV series, including the long-awaited Season 2 of Wednesday, the highly anticipated Season 5 of Stranger Things, and the equally awaited Season 5 of You. It remains unclear when Squid Game will make its return in Season 3, but I am definitely looking forward to it joining this impressive lineup of upcoming shows.

The Squid Game Season 3 Cast

Although a definitive cast list for Squid Game Season 3 hasn’t been announced, several characters appeared throughout Season 2’s finale. Consequently, it seems plausible that some familiar faces may reappear in Season 3.

  • Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun (456)
  • Lee Byung-hun (unmasked) as Hwang In-ho, the Front Man
  • Im Si-wan as Lee Myung-gi (333)
  • Kang Ha-neul as Kang Dae-ho (388)
  • Wi Ha-joon as Hwang Jun-ho
  • Park Gyu-young as Kang No-eul
  • Lee Jin-wook as Park Gyeong-seok (246)
  • Park Sung-hoon as Cho Hyun-ju (120)
  • Yang Dong-geun as Park Yong-sik (007)
  • Kang Ae-shim as Jang Geum-ja (149)
  • Jo Yu-ri as Kim Jun-hee (222)

In the unlikely event that we won’t encounter Jung-bae, or Player 390, who met his end in the final episode of Squid Game Season 2, it’s safe to assume that many familiar faces from the previous season will reappear when the games resume for another set of episodes. After all, everyone else seems to be still around.

What Is Squid Game Season 3 Going To Be About?

Though we’ve got a general understanding of the concept behind “Squid Game”, its third season promises plenty of unexpected surprises. Fortunately, we have some idea of what may transpire ahead.

Who The Front Man Is Will Be Answered

One persistent query surrounding the series ‘Squid Game’ has always been: “Who is the Front Man? What is his backstory?” This enigma escalates in Season 2 as he becomes Player 001, adding to the intrigue and perplexity. Fortunately, during an interview with CBR in December 2024, the show creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, announced that Season 3 will finally shed light on these questions.

In Season 3, we’ll finally discover the backstory behind how In-ho transformed into the Front Man, a role that contrasts sharply with his previous image as an upright, essentially good-hearted police officer. Keep tuned for the third season to uncover this mystery!

In truth, Season 2 has left me with even more questions about the character, The Front Man, than ever before. Could we possibly get some clarification or an explanation for these uncertainties?

Gi-Hun Will Have A “Sense Of Guilt And Failure”

A crucial element of Season 2 was undeniably the uprising that Gi-hun orchestrated against the game’s administrators, which ultimately crumbled due to treachery. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed in an interview with Variety in December 2024 that this failure will leave Gi-hun grappling with feelings of “guilt” and “regret,” causing a transformation in his character for the upcoming season.

As I dive into the third installment, carrying the crushing weight of guilt and failure on my shoulders – what’s next for me in this mission? That’s the intriguing journey ahead…I’ve lost everything, including my dearest friend, and all my endeavors have ended in disaster. Now, I stand at a crossroads, questioning who I am and where I’m going. Will I press on with the mission or throw in the towel? Am I ready to give up or will I fight harder than ever before? Join me as we uncover Gi-hun’s transformation when Squid Game returns for its thrilling third season.

Poor Gi-hun has definitely experienced some tough times in Season 2, ranging from the nerve-wracking Russian Roulette game to the terrifying six-legged race – it seems like Season 3 may bring even more hardships for him.

The Third Season Will Be The Conclusion To Gi-Hun’s Story – But There’s Potential For More

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about revisiting Gi-hun in Season 3. However, it’s bittersweet knowledge that this will mark the concluding chapter of his journey tied to the games. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in December 2024, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that Season 3 would bring an end to Gi-hun’s storyline. Yet, there’s a glimmer of hope: if the series manages to carry on in some form, he is open to exploring fresh narratives centered around new characters.

In my opinion, I consider the third season as wrapping up the narrative of this story. This is because I feel I’ve provided a satisfying conclusion to the tale I wanted to convey about society, through the character of Seong Gi-hun. If I were to revisit the Squid Game universe, it would be for a new set of characters and a distinct plot arc. Perhaps a spinoff, where we delve into the lives of the masked guards – their origins, their daily routines, and other such intriguing aspects.

As a movie enthusiast, I had high expectations for the masked guards’ narrative in Season 2, especially with the character Kang No-eul taking on their role. However, it didn’t get as much attention as I hoped. If they were to create a spinoff focusing more on this aspect, I would certainly be on board and eagerly await each episode!

Season 3 Will Answer Many Fans’ Questions

Season 2 certainly stirred up a lot of unanswered questions. Who exactly is The Front Man? Where does our character Gi-hun’s journey lead? Will the mysterious island ever be found? What becomes of the game’s participants now? There are plenty of queries, but not enough answers to satisfy us yet.

However, Lee Jung-jau, the main character of the series, addressed concerns raised by fans following Season 2 (as reported by The Korea Times via GameRant). Particularly since Season 2 was shorter, many questions arose. He promised that Season 3 will address these queries, focusing on Gi-hun’s development and his ultimate transformation.

In simpler terms, I won’t defend or clarify audience responses about our show, nor will I delve into our creative process. Instead, Season 3 will offer explanations for many viewer questions. As for the main character, he’s at a low ebb and enters a dangerous situation with the goal of saving others. However, despite his attempts to guide them, he encounters numerous obstacles and eventually reaches rock bottom. It promises to be thrilling watching him navigate these hurdles.

Season 3 Has Already Been Filmed

Prepare yourself, as Season 3 of Squid Game reportedly has already been completed. As per Forbes, it was filmed simultaneously with Season 2, which aligns well with the 2025 release date. Considering this, we might receive a trailer ahead of schedule.

Even though Season 3 of “Squid Game” isn’t too far off, there’s no shortage of other shows similar to it that you can binge-watch in the interim. So let’s embark on a TV marathon!
