‘Squid Game’ Star Lee Jung-jae Is Happy With How Series Ends But Is “Very Nervous” For Fan Reaction

The end of Squid Game is near.

Following its second season’s premiere on Netflix in December, the series returns for its concluding chapter, the third season. A teaser was unveiled during Netflix’s Tudum event on Saturday. In this sneak peek, our main character Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is once again participating in the games following the failed uprising that marked the end of season two. The risks are higher and the competition is more brutal than ever before.

Stepping onto the red carpet at the Tudum event, I couldn’t help but feel a flutter of nerves as I prepared to share some exciting news with The Hollywood Reporter. “We are gearing up for a swift release,” I confessed through an interpreter, my heart pounding with anticipation. I know that many of you out there are eagerly waiting to find out what’s in store for season three, but the truth is, we’re even more curious about your reactions. So, I can hardly wait – I’m absolutely terrified!

In 2022, the actor clinched an Emmy Award for his exceptional acting in the show. He has led the cast since the first season and continued to do so through its subsequent seasons. The series experienced unprecedented popularity on streaming platforms, eventually becoming Nielsen’s highest-rated program during the 2024-25 television season.

Lee Byung-hun, the actor portraying the mysterious game leader Front Man, expressed that he found reading the scripts for seasons two and three simultaneously to be flawlessly written. He was captivated by its intrigue and suspense, and once again impressed by director Hwang’s [Dong-hyuk]’s skill.

When asked for his personal thoughts on the finale, Lee reflected, “I’m satisfied with the conclusion, but I’m aware that each fan has their own desires for how things should play out. So, I’m genuinely intrigued by their reactions and rather apprehensive to discover them.

Squid Game season three starts streaming June 27.
