Stan Lee Used To Roast DC For Clark Kent Taking Off His Glasses And Suddenly Becoming Unrecognizable As Superman

As a lifelong gamer who grew up reading both Marvel and DC comics, I can’t help but have my own thoughts on this age-old debate. While I appreciate Stan Lee’s humor towards Superman’s disguise, it’s clear that he holds a deep respect for the character that launched the superhero genre.

Throughout the annals of comic book superheroes, Marvel and DC have consistently been the most prominent figures. Although some, particularly in more recent times, have tried to minimize the “battle” between these leading comic giants, it’s undeniable that there is a healthy competition between them. Consequently, it’s not shocking that Stan Lee occasionally took digs at Superman, despite his overall affection for the character.

Hey there fellow gamers! I recently stumbled upon an old video where Larry King interviewed Stan Lee, asking him about his favorite DC character. Without missing a beat, Stan Lee declared that Superman was his top pick, as this iconic character kick-started the whole superhero comic genre. But just because he’s got a soft spot for Supes doesn’t mean he can’t take a playful jab at him every now and then!

I’ve made light of the subject. I could say, “Hi, I’m Stan Lee.” (Removes sunglasses) “Gee whiz, where did Stan disappear to? Who is this guy now?” I realize it’s a bit absurd.

It’s not just Lee who finds it questionable that Superman’s disguise was flawed. While some theories suggest Clark Kent‘s disguise is convincing, many people would still likely recognize the resemblance between the two men. In a non-fictional setting, it would be hard to believe that no one would notice Clark Kent and Superman are one and the same.

Still, despite the silliness of the character, Stan Lee still loves Superman. He calls him his favorite DC character, and he’s certainly a lot of people’s favorite superhero of all time. If nothing else Lee appreciates that had it not been for Superman, it’s possible we never would have had the boom in superhero comics that made Marvel, and Stan Lee, household names, leading to all the great Marvel and DC movies we love. In the latest Superman film, “Man of Steel,” the character of Clark Kent and his glasses were introduced quite late in the story. The subsequent movie, titled “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” featured Clark Kent less frequently wearing glasses, and there were fewer scenes where both Clark and Superman interacted with other characters.

Next year, I’ll get excited about a brand-new “Superman” movie hitting theaters. I can’t wait to see how they tackle the balancing act of portraying both Superman and Clark Kent on screen. We’ve caught a glimpse of David Corenswet as Superman, but there’s still no peek at him as Clark Kent – though plenty of us have our own ideas about his hairstyle. As for how much screen time the movie will devote to each side of Clark’s character, it remains to be seen. Maybe the new film will come up with a fresh approach to distinguish Clark from Superman that feels more authentic, or maybe they’ll just go ahead and have fun with the idea that glasses could be his primary disguise.
