As a fan who’s been following Stanley Tucci‘s remarkable career, it’s both inspiring and heartbreaking to hear about his post-“The Devil Wears Prada” struggles. The man who brought Nigel to life on the silver screen, a character that resonated with so many, couldn’t find another job after the film’s success! It’s like Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly saying, “This is fashion, Stanley. Fashion changes. And we change with it.
Stanley Tucci openly discusses the professional challenges he experienced after the release of “The Devil Wears Prada”.
As a gamer, I remember the guy who brought Nigel to life in the 2006 blockbuster, starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt, recently shared with Vanity Fair that he faced difficulties landing another role post that movie. The film was a hit at the box office, bagging two Oscars, but it seemed like the limelight eluded him afterwards.
Following ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, I found it difficult to secure a job, which I didn’t quite comprehend at the time, but that was simply how things turned out. Consequently, I took on tasks that perhaps weren’t my first choice, yet I persevered.
The actor from “Conclave” didn’t mention particular past roles he wants to avoid, but he did express that his acting journey has consistently experienced ups and downs, with times when the industry itself is to blame, and other instances where personal circumstances prevented him from working.
Tucci mentioned that he fell ill six years ago, which caused some difficulties temporarily. However, he gradually recovered. Yet, due to financial needs, he felt compelled to return to work earlier than ideal. He admitted he might not have had enough energy after treatments, but it was necessary and in time, he managed to regain his footing.
Beyond the film directed by David Frankel, Tucci has graced numerous productions over his career, such as The Lovely Bones, for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, Julie & Julia, Spotlight, Patient Zero and the Hunger Games series.
A sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada” is being developed by Disney with the original writer, Aline Brosh McKenna. However, it’s still uncertain if Meryl Streep will return to play her character in the new movie.
