As a passionate advocate for representation and visibility of Asian talents in Hollywood, I am thrilled to hear about The Unforgettable Gala that honors the API community’s brightest stars across various fields. The event’s mission to bring attention to underrepresented talent and inspire younger generations aligns perfectly with my personal beliefs.
The Memorable Year-End Awards Ceremony, which celebrates the most outstanding individuals in the API community across entertainment, arts, and culture, has recently revealed some new acts set to perform at this weekend’s event.
This year’s event happening on December 14th is produced by Golden TV and Character Media. According to Takashi Cheng, founder and CEO of Golden TV, this gala has consistently highlighted underrepresented talent in mainstream media. As he stated to The Hollywood Reporter, the primary objective for them is to increase visibility for these individuals within mainstream circles. Furthermore, he mentioned that the production seeks to inspire future generations by presenting these role models as examples.
The upcoming evening event, led by Stephane Hsu, JR De Guzman, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, promises an array of exclusive segments. One of the highlights is a unique AAPI timeline performance that aims to transport the audience through various decades, showcasing significant milestones like The Jets, who were the pioneering Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) group to reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Additionally, 98 Degrees will appear with an upcoming special guest, as stated in a recent press release. The Hawaiian boy band Party Foul, formerly known as Crossing Rain, is set to make their global debut during this event by performing new music and collaborating with 98 Degrees for the first time.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited to delve into our past, present, and what lies ahead at this year’s gathering. Just like old times, these events have always been a chance for us, the trailblazers of history, to reunite, reminisce, and celebrate our shared victories. Looking forward to the 2024 event, we aim to maintain that same spirit, embracing a mindset of reflection, recognition, and continuation. Let’s journey through our past, celebrate our present, and chart the course for our future together.
Cheng explains that the current segment of the show highlights “recognizing all the trailblazers who are making a difference right now.” On Saturday, some of the awards being given out include the Global Icon Award to Hiroyuki Sanada, star of Shogun; the Global Groundbreaker Award to Japanese comedian and actress Naomi Watanabe; and the Culture Icon Award to Nepalese American fashion designer Prabal Gurung. The “Laker Legends” will receive the Community Impact Award, which honors them as allies of the Asian American community, with former players anticipated to attend.
For the future, Cheng emphasizes that it’s crucial for the Unforgettable Gala to attract a younger audience who can be significantly impacted and motivated by the event. According to Golden TV’s head of growth and partnerships, it’s essential for people to realize that Unfo is not just a single night, but a broader experience.
We’re committed for the long term and we’re all in this journey together. It’s not just about Unfo; it’s much more than that. We invite you to rejoin us, to become a part of our community because we view each other as one large, extended family. And being part of such a family requires everyone’s involvement and participation.
Established by Character Media in 2002, and now produced by both GoldenTV and Character Media in the current year, the Unforgettable Gala is being co-chaired by writer, director Adele Lim and actor, producer Eugene Lee Yang. The selection committee for this event consists of Apl.de.Ap, Awkwafina, Bing Chen, Destin Daniel Cretton, Manny Jacinto, Daniel Dae Kim, Lisa Ling, Simu Liu, Ramakrishnan, and others. For the 2024 event, new partnerships have been formed with Cartier, Fenty, and Vizio.
I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated event is happening at the iconic Beverly Hilton! On December 18th, you can catch it live nationwide on ChimeTV, a network brought to you by GoldenTV. Plus, if you can’t make it to your television, don’t worry – you can stream it online at GetGolden.TV. I can hardly wait!
