Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Brings Back a Classic Creature?

After what seems like an extended delay longer than the time it took for the Voyager to reach Earth, we are now on the brink of witnessing fresh episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. With another Star Trek show set to debut soon, the genre-blending series has unveiled its Season 3 episode titles, perhaps as a gentle nudge for fans to renew their Paramount+ subscription. I was particularly excited to catch a glimpse of these tantalizing titles, especially the hint of a creature not seen since Enterprise.

I’m thrilled to find out how the cliffhanger in Season 2 unfolds, but it seems that most of my favorite characters will survive that ordeal according to the trailers. This means I’m also eagerly anticipating the references to other planets and creatures we might encounter. That’s why a title for Season 3, which was recently revealed on the official Star Trek Instagram page, has piqued my interest.

I’m genuinely excited by the titles, particularly since they include a reference to a Sehlat. Let’s hope that this small spoiler helps soften the disappointment for those who got to watch the Season 3 opener before the rest of us at film festivals.

Sehlats Get A Mention In Episode 8

From what’s been presented earlier, the title of Episode 8 is “The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail”. I’m quite eager to catch a glimpse of this creature because we last saw it in CGI form during Star Trek: Enterprise’s “The Forge”, marking its first appearance since then. Unfortunately, I can’t provide an image here as the scene is too dark and the CGI quality isn’t great, making it not really suitable for sharing.

In the animated Star Trek series, Sehlats are particularly striking to behold, with one in specific being linked to Spock. As a child, he owned a pet Sehlat named I-Chaya. Although they are usually wild creatures, they can be tamed and made into household pets.

Will Strange New Worlds Give Us The First Sehlat Since Enterprise, Or Is It Just A Metaphor?

Although it would be exciting to watch a Sehlat character appear on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and replace the less-than-satisfactory one from Enterprise, it’s important to note that this doesn’t necessarily mean we will see a Sehlat in this specific episode. In fact, it could merely be symbolic, connected to a widely-used term that’s also familiar on Earth.

More On Star Trek

In the Picard series, Brent Spiner reprised his role from Star Trek, but it’s understandable why he initially declined to play Data once more.

The image of a snake consuming its own tail, known as ouroboros, symbolizes the continuous loop of life. While sehlats are larger than snakes, it’s highly unlikely for one to eat its entire body and form a complete circle like a snake does.

In a different phrasing, the metaphor might not fit perfectly, and it’s interesting to note that reptilian beings exist in ‘Star Trek’. These creatures could potentially enhance the comparison between the phrases. However, I find it questionable if we’re discussing common sayings, but who knows? We’ll discover the truth eventually when ‘Strange New Worlds’ Season 3 arrives soon.

The much-anticipated premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has had fans eagerly counting down the days, but it seems like we might not need to wait as long for new episodes after Season 3. Insights suggest that Paul Wesley and others are already hard at work on Season 4, and with no impending strikes in Hollywood, we can likely look forward to its release without worrying about another extended delay.
