Star Wars’ Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane Make a Thrilling Comeback in ‘Tales of the Underworld’ Series

Fans can anticipate rejoicing in ‘May the Fourth’ as Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane make their return in the animated short series, titled Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, starting from 2022. Earlier, in 2022, the Star Wars universe expanded its focus on side characters through short form animation with series like Tales of the Jedi, which delved into the backstory of Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano. In 2024, the sequel Tales of the Empire revisited the unresolved storylines of Barriss Offee from The Clone Wars and Morgan Elsbeth from The Mandalorian, along with Ahsoka. Now, fans will have a chance to explore the bounty hunter aspect of the Star Wars Universe through Tales of the Underworld.

Disney has unveiled an official trailer for “Tales of the Underworld,” a new series focusing on fan-favorite bounty hunters Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane from the Clone Wars era. The spotlight will be on these characters, who are known as villains, during the Empire’s reign, providing insights into an unexplored period in their timelines. May the Fourth Be With You

For fans, it’s exciting to see the reappearance of Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane. Originally created by George Lucas, Ventress first appeared in Genndy Tartakovsky’s 2D animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars (non-canon) back in 2003, later transitioning to the main canon with the computer-animated The Clone Wars in 2008. Cad Bane, another Lucas creation alongside Dave Filoni and Henry Gilroy, made his debut in a 2009 episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, becoming a recurring antagonist on the series. Both characters have now been seen in the spin-off series The Bad Batch, depicting them during the early stages of the Galactic Empire’s formation. Tales of the Underworld aims to delve further into this timeline.

In the show “The Book of Boba Fett“, Cad Bane is present, implying he made it through the original Star Wars trilogy. As for Asajj Ventress, her storyline is still uncertain. She was believed to be dead following the 2015 novel “Dark Disciple“, but her reappearance in “The Bad Batch” suggests she’s alive again, leaving fans puzzled about her resurrection. It remains to be seen if “Tales of the Underworld ” will reveal how she came back to life, but it is expected to further Ventress’s journey towards redemption that she started at the end of “The Clone Wars“.

Every year on May 4th, affectionately known as “Star Wars Day,” Disney has been celebrating with special releases. In 2020, the final episode of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” was aired, while in 2021, the animated series “The Bad Batch” debuted with a special one-hour premiere. The following year, 2022, brought us a Boba Fett special, and in 2023, we got Season 2 of “Star Wars: Visions.” Last year, on May the Fourth of 2024, “Tales of the Empire” was released, making it fitting for “Tales of the Underworld” to be unveiled this year.
