Star Wars Battlefront 3 Fans Launch Petition as BF2 Resurgence Sparks Hope

2017’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 is once again in the spotlight, as players are returning to the first-person shooter game following this year’s Star Wars Day festivities and the acclaimed second season of Andor. The renewed interest in the game has sparked calls for a new installment, and fans have started a petition that is garnering momentum.

On Change.org, a petition titled “Encourage EA Games to Create Star Wars Battlefront 3” has surpassed 9,000 signatures. This petition started two weeks ago and is now drawing broader interest as it appears that more players are returning to Battlefront 2. The petition expresses, “It’s evident that the demand is immense,” further stating, “If developed, Battlefront 3 would not only satisfy the dedicated fanbase but also attract newcomers to the thrilling battles in a galaxy far, far away.”

Fans Want A Third Battlefront Game After Star Wars Day & Andor Season 2

I’ve Seen This One Before

This year’s Star Wars Day coincided with the midpoint of the second season of Andor, and it has revitalized the gaming side of the Star Wars franchise. Players have been drawn back to DICE’s Battlefront 2, a series that was reintroduced in 2015 as a comeback for the much-loved franchise, with its first two installments released in 2004 and 2005. An earlier Battlefront from original developer Pandemic Studios was discontinued around 2008, and unfortunately, the reboot duology has met a similar end, as EA declined DICE’s proposal for Battlefront 3 in 2021, reportedly due to licensing costs.

For years, the gaming universes of Star Wars Battlefront have provided exhilarating and absorbing experiences for countless Star Wars enthusiasts worldwide. Now, these passionate fans are petitioning to create a third game as a tribute to the rich legacy of the Star Wars universe. They believe that Electronic Arts (EA) Games and Disney, two leading forces in entertainment, possess the ability to craft an extraordinary and groundbreaking gaming experience for all.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 Is Unlikely, According To A Former DICE Developer

Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

It appears that hopes for a new Battlefront 3 game might be misplaced. As per IGN, a former developer from DICE has shared insights online, suggesting that it’s highly unlikely we’ll see Battlefront 3 in the near future or ever. Mats Holm, who worked on the live-service aspect of the 2017 Battlefront 2, expressed his doubts, stating, “I don’t anticipate a Battlefront 3 announcement at the end of this hype wave,” referring to the game’s current resurgence in popularity. The primary reason, according to Holm, is that most of the original Battlefront 2 team have moved on from DICE.

After several members of the original development team transitioned to Embark Studios, they are now working on projects such as ARC Raiders and The Finals in 2023. Meanwhile, others who worked on Battlefront 2 have moved to various other studios including Ubisoft, independents, King, Avalanche, Star Stables, Paradox, Starbreeze, Mojang, among others. This doesn’t necessarily mean a new Battlefront game won’t be made, but with fewer members of the original Battlefront 2 team still at DICE, it would likely require substantial resources and effort from EA and Disney if they were to pursue its development.
