Anakin is back (again), baby!
In the second season of the popular Lucasfilm series on Disney+ titled “Ahsoka,” Hayden Christensen will once again embody the beloved character Anakin Skywalker. This news was shared during the Star Wars Celebration convention held in Tokyo, Japan.
During a panel discussion, the creators of Ahsoka – Dave Filoni (creator), Jon Favreau (executive producer) and Rosario Dawson (star) shared insights about the show’s origins and the production process for season one. Filoni highlighted the significant impact of Hayao Miyazaki’s film, Princess Mononoke, while Favreau discussed George Lucas’ affection for Ahsoka Tano and his memories of casting Dawson. The actress revealed that they will start filming season two of Ahsoka next week.
Following a short sequence featuring Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka on the screen, there was an enthusiastic reception as Hayden Christensen exited. However, it wasn’t until later in the panel that his return was officially announced. “I can’t reveal much, but Anakin will appear again in season two,” Christensen shared, causing even more excitement from the crowd.
In other discussions, Filoni briefly mentioned Rory McCann stepping into the role of Baylan Skoll, a character previously played by the late Ray Stevenson who passed away in May 2023. He also confirmed that Admiral Akbar will reappear in season two and engage in a confrontation with Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Ian Christensen is renowned for his portrayal of the future Darth Vader in 2002’s “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones” and 2005’s “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” He re-entered the Star Wars universe by playing Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader again in the show “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and later appeared, digitally de-aged, in two episodes during the first season of “Ahsoka.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve been thrilled to witness the captivating performance of an actor who’s been the standout star at this year’s Celebration event. This spectacular occasion is packed with engaging experiences like autograph signings and photo opportunities with iconic Star Wars personalities such as Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Mads Mikkelson from Rogue One, Diego Luna of Andor, and Ahmed Best known for his role as Jar Jar Binks.
However, what’s truly intriguing is the resurgence of Hayden Christensen, an actor who hasn’t been involved in significant productions since wrapping up his Star Wars roles in the 2000s. Remarkably, he has managed to claim a top spot, if not the very top, among the attractions in this part of the Celebration galaxy.
Among all actors, Christensen’s fee stood out as the highest by a considerable difference. A picture featuring Christensen would set you back approximately $208, while Dawson’s asking price was slightly lower at $181. An opportunity with Luna was even more affordable, costing around $160.
The series, titled “Ahsoka,” chronicles the life of Ahsoka Tano following the events of “Return of the Jedi.” This character was once a padawan under the tutelage of Skywalker but found herself as an outcast among the Jedi. Joining her in this show are actors such as Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, Diana Lee Inosanto, David Tennant, Eman Esfandi, Evan Whitten, Genevieve O’Reilly, Ariana Greenblatt, and Lars Mikkelsen.
The Star Wars Celebration, a convention that happens approximately every two years and brings together fans of George Lucas’ science fiction fantasy, is currently taking place in Tokyo, Japan. During this event, Disney has disclosed the title and release date for Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling’s standalone Star Wars film, unveiled plans for a Darth Maul animated series, and presented the first trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu.
