The president of Lucasfilm (who it seems isn’t planning to retire) has shared insights about the future direction of the legendary Star Wars universe. Particularly, he discussed how the upcoming trilogy from screenwriter and director, renowned for his work on Fox’s X-Men series and the animated show Star Wars: Rebels, will influence the galaxy’s course in the coming years.
During a conversation with Deadline, Kennedy shared some exciting updates about the future of Star Wars. It appears that significant progress is being made on what Kinberg has been planning, as the development for the new trilogy is moving swiftly and dynamically.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to report that things are moving swiftly, reminiscent of the Fast and Furious franchise. The project has been progressing exceptionally well, and as I write this, it’s being penned down. We should expect to see the fruits of our labor around June. For those who might recall, Simon was part of our team in the past, contributing to an animated show that was truly a delightful collaboration experience. After getting engrossed in X-Men and then finding some free time again, he’s seamlessly transitioned into this new project. We’re genuinely excited about where this journey is taking us.
After transitioning to streaming on Disney+ and producing various spin-offs, Star Wars is now focusing its attention back towards the cinema. There are several upcoming silver-screen spin-offs being developed, such as films directed by Shawn Levy, who has worked with Deadpool and Wolverine, and Taika Waitit, a winner of the Oscar. However, Simon Kinberg’s plans for the franchise will reportedly create “a new saga” that propels the series into the future.

However, I have been discussing succession plans with Bob and Alan at Lucasfilm for some time now. We have a talented team here, and we plan to announce our decision, whether it be in months or a year from now. Rest assured, I am not stepping down; instead, I’m currently working on ‘The Mandalorian’ film and a movie by Sean Levy, following that project. So, I remain actively involved at Lucasfilm, pondering with Bob and Alan about who will take over.
