As a longtime Star Wars fan and video game enthusiast with over three decades of accumulated fandom under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation as I gaze upon the roadmap for Star Wars Outlaws. On one hand, the prospect of delving into new Star Wars stories featuring iconic characters like Lando Calrissian and Hondo Ohnaka is tantalizing. Yet, on the other, the lingering specter of Ubisoft’s penchant for milking every last drop of revenue from their properties leaves me with a sense of unease.
As a dedicated fan, I initially harbored doubts when Ubisoft, the publisher behind Assassin’s Creed, announced they were venturing into the Star Wars universe. However, after catching glimpses of Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars Outlaws, it’s evident that this isn’t just an Assassin’s Creed stealth game with a fresh cosmic coat of paint. Alas, it seems that Ubisoft is finding it hard to break away from old habits as the allure of profit looms large in their vision.
Critics from our team greatly appreciated Outlaws’ space adventure, stating it surpasses Uncharted in many aspects. If executed well, it could be on par with Respawn’s Star Wars games and become a modern masterpiece. Ubisoft tends to have ambitious plans for extending the life of Outlaws, as evidenced by their detailed roadmap that is quite extensive, similar to Jabba the Hutt’s size.

Star Wars Outlaws™ Post-Launch Roadmap Revealed

Ubisoft recently unveiled their post-launch plan for Outlaws, detailing the content available in its two-story expansions. While these story add-ons are included with the more expensive Gold or Ultimate editions’ Season Passes and as part of Ubisoft+ Premium, you can also purchase the pass individually.
“Wild Card” introduces us to protagonist Kay Vess, who embarks on a thrilling mission to join a high-stakes Sabacc competition and confronts the iconic character Lando Calrissian. Although Lando is initially featured in the main game, it seems his role will be significantly expanded within the “Wild Card” Downloadable Content (DLC). The exciting “Wild Card” DLC is expected to launch in Fall 2024.
Next, Vess and her ship, The Trailblazer, encounter notorious pirate Hondo Ohnaka in “A Pirate’s Fortune.” Known for his menacing reputation in the Outer Rim, Hondo Ohnaka was introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 1 and has since made appearances in series like Rebels as well as the Galaxy’s Edge theme park.
As a longtime gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that these story expansions are sure to provide players with a great value for their money. However, it seems some gamers believe that this additional content should have been included in the base game’s price. One individual exclaimed, “I smell profit!”, while another enthusiastically proclaimed, “I love Hondo so much!” These responses remind me of my early days of gaming when expansions and DLC were a staple for extending the life of a game. I can appreciate both perspectives, but I’m personally excited to see what these expansions bring to the table.
1. “A discontented individual pondered, ‘1. Release an unfinished game, 2. Announce a development plan, 3. Sell additional content that should have been part of the initial release, 4. Gain profit‘.”
Others mentioned they plan to wait until Outlaws becomes available for purchase. After one person stated, “That’s good to know, thanks! I suppose it won’t be until at least spring of 2025 before I get a chance to play this,” another individual speculated, “It seems they removed it from the main game specifically to sell it for additional profit.”
If you found these comments unpleasant, the r/StarWars official subreddit was alarmingly toxic. Regrettably, this has become quite prevalent ever since Kay Vess was unveiled. Given that Outlaws were labeled ‘woke’ by the demanding Star Wars community, we should have anticipated the recent uproar.
