Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’s Ravi Cabot-Conyers Opened Up To Us About Wim’s ‘Pivotal And Important’ Lightsaber Moment In The Season 1 Finale

Warning: SPOILERS for the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1 finale are ahead!

The TV series “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” wrapped up its broadcast in the 2025 schedule, and the Season 1 finale, named “The Real Good Guys,” stood out for several reasons. Apart from uncovering Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood’s backstory, Ravi Cabot-Conyers’ character, Wim, at last got to skillfully use the lightsaber from Tak Rennod’s secret base, a task he had initially botched in “You Have a Lot to Learn About Pirates.” Cabot-Conyers called this scene a crucial and significant milestone for his character as he shared insights on filming it with TopMob.

In my chat with Cabot-Conyers not long after the Season 1 finale of Skeleton Crew was made available on Disney+, I couldn’t help but inquire about his experience filming that particular scene. Given that Wim is likely the youngest main character in a live-action Star Wars movie or TV series to handle a lightsaber, it seemed like an important topic for discussion during our conversation. Here’s what he shared with me:

Man, what a thrill! When I discovered I’d get to be part of it, I simply couldn’t wrap my head around it. Incredible! The moment I thought, “This is actually going to happen to me,” was priceless. Fascinating stuff! I’ve always been curious about the behind-the-scenes of lightsabers. It’s amazing how they make them work. Basically, the handle you grip, and then there’s a clear rod that extends from it. Someone operates this, and when needed, it lights up. Awesome, right? That moment was truly special. It plays a significant role in Wim’s character development. I feel like his journey was about seeking adventure, experiencing it, and then recognizing the joy and excitement it brought, beyond the pirates and treasure [laughs]. But they also did some close-up shots capturing that magical moment with the lightsaber. Oh my gosh, I felt like a star! [laugh]. What a blast!

In the majority of cases, among “The Real Good Guys,” the lightsaber was held by Jod Na-Nawood while he directed his pirate team’s assault on At-Attin. Notably, he exhibited a fair amount of skill with the weapon when he deflected incoming stun blasts. This ability was likely due to the fact that as a child, he had been discovered by a Jedi and learned some Jedi ways, but his Master perished during Order 66 or in the early years of the Empire’s rule.

In the heated confrontation within the room with the Supervisor, Wim and Fern managed to seize the lightsaber from Jod, and as the protective barrier around At-Attin crumbled, Wim activated the blue blade. Instead of employing the Force to reclaim the weapon or firing at the children who thwarted his scheme, Jude Law’s character discarded his blaster and conceded defeat. There were many interconnected events that led to Wim wielding the lightsaber, and Ravi Cabot-Conyers mentioned that was his favorite scene to film while working on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, stating it was his favorite when I discussed that topic.

Wow, that moment from episode eight really takes the cake for me! It’s undoubtedly the scene with the lightsaber that has left such an impression. Filming that entire sequence involving Jod, Wendell, Farrah, and Fern was a blast, I must say. I reckon it might have taken a good couple of weeks to capture all the action-packed scenes in that stretch, given how many things were happening.

The stunt work we did was simply thrilling! Remember the part where I unsheathed the lightsaber and we had to fall backward? That was definitely one of my favorite parts to film during that sequence. Holding the lightsaber itself is still one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had [laughs].

But what made it even more exciting was the dynamic interaction between Wim, Jod, and the others. It was enjoyable to be a part of filming such a fun scene, yet also nerve-wracking because it contained a heart-pounding sequence that left me on edge! I absolutely loved it.

Given Wim’s fondness for Jedi stories prior to embarking on his journey with Neel, Fern and KB, holding a lightsaber, however briefly, likely felt like a realization of his dreams. Although there was no hint during “Skeleton Crew” that Wim possesses Force sensitivity, it’s also not definitively ruled out. If Wim reappears in future Star Wars movies or shows, I hope he still retains the lightsaber instead of it being taken away by the New Republic. Under adult guidance, it seems fitting for him to at least master the fundamentals of wielding it.

Since the end of Season 1 for “Skeleton Crew” and with speculation about Season 2, our attention now shifts to upcoming Star Wars small screen projects. First in line is the second season of “Andor”, debuting on April 22. As for “Ahsoka”, we’re eagerly waiting for its release date to be announced.
