Stardew Valley: How to Get Summer Squash

As a seasoned Stardew Valley gamer with more years under my belt than I care to admit, I can confidently say that the quest for Summer Squash seeds has been one of the most rewarding (and frustrating) experiences in this enchanting game. It’s not often that you find a crop as valuable and elusive as these little green treasures.

In Stardew Valley, Summer Squash is considered a highly valuable crop. Unlike other items, you can’t purchase it directly; instead, you must cultivate it from Summer Squash seeds. These seeds are somewhat elusive and aren’t usually stocked in the standard game shops. To get your hands on them, you’ll have to explore the Valley diligently.

In Stardew Valley, obtaining Summer Squash seeds can be a laborious task, but it’s well worth the effort as the results are truly rewarding. To get these elusive seeds, you’ll need to search for them among artifact spots, delve into the mines, and engage in trade with various NPCs. Here’s a simple walkthrough on how to find Summer Squash seeds and cultivate the plant in Stardew Valley:

As Summer Squash seeds aren’t typically found in common grocery stores, here are some methods to gather those seeds:

Artifact Spots

One common method to get Summer Squash seeds is by unearthing the green-colored patches, known as Artifact Spots, from late Spring (approximately Spring 24) up until Summer 20. These Artifact Spots pop up randomly on farmable land and may hold Summer Squash seeds inside. You can recognize these spots by their long, wavy tendrils.

Treasure Chests and Mine Crates

If you have unlocked Fishing Mastery, you can also catch Golden Fishing Treasure Chests between Spring 24 and Summer 20 to get Summer Squash seeds. Crates and barrels found in the Skull Cavern can also contain these seeds.

Once you finish the second adventure with the Raccoon Family, you’ll gain access to Mrs. Raccoon’s Shop, where you can swap 15 units of Sap for a Summer Squash Seed. This feature could be useful for players who have more sap than they know what to do with and need a consistent supply of seeds. Make sure to visit Mrs. Raccoon’s shop frequently to ensure a steady stock of seeds.

Grow Summer Squash from Seeds

To achieve optimal harvests, sow your summer squash seeds at the onset of summer. Summer Squash typically sprouts within six days and then re-emerges every three days thereafter. It is important to note that these plants thrive only during the summer months; however, if you cultivate them in a greenhouse or on Ginger Island, they can continue growing all year round.

Uses for Summer Squash

Transforming simple Summer Squash into pickled squash in a preserves jar or squash juice in a keg significantly boosts its worth. These processed goods are highly valued, particularly if you’re an artisan, as they tend to fetch higher prices.

Besides offering it for sale or incorporating it into dishes, Summer Squash is generally well-received as a gift among many villagers. However, certain villagers such as Abigail, Haley, Jas, Sam, and Vincent express dislike towards it. Additionally, you can utilize it in the Sewing Machine with fabric to produce a yellow Tank Top or employ it as a yellow dye in Emily’s and Haley’s Dye Pot.
