Sports analyst Stephen A. Smith has secured a long-term contract with SiriusXM, under which he will oversee the creation and presentation of two fresh programs, one of which will not focus on sports topics.
Beginning in September, Smith is set to launch a new daily sports discussion program that will broadcast on Mad Dog Sports Radio (channel 82). In this show, he’ll share his insights on the most significant sports news. Additionally, he plans to initiate a weekly talk show focusing on current events, pop culture, and social issues, which will be aired on an as-yet undisclosed non-sports channel from SiriusXM.
Smith will also host multiple in-person SiriusXM subscriber events during the year.
The agreement follows Smith signing a fresh long-term contract with ESPN in March, enabling him to carry on as the head of First Take, his primary weekday program, while also allowing him opportunities to explore additional deals focusing on areas such as politics, culture, and beyond.
Smith expressed more than just excitement, he’s thrilled beyond words,” Smith said. “I’ve had a blast on ‘Mad Dog’ before, so being able to reunite with him on his show is a real treat. And not only that, but I get to host a weekly program where I can discuss fascinating topics in Pop Culture, Politics, and Social Commentary! It doesn’t get any better than that. September cannot come soon enough. I’ve missed being on radio, especially the back-and-forth with callers. Buckle up! Here I come!
Smith announced the news when he appeared on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show Wednesday morning.
Scott Greenstein, President and chief content officer of SiriusXM, praised Stephen A. as a remarkable individual and one of the leading figures in media currently. Although many recognize him for his exceptional sports commentary, his areas of interest span across politics, news, entertainment, and numerous other fields. At SiriusXM, he is given unrestricted creative liberty to explore various topics and exhibit his distinctive abilities and viewpoints.
Smith’s “Mad Dog Sports Radio” program is set to launch on the 2nd of September. The start date for his current events and pop culture show has yet to be announced, but it will be in September.
