Netflix’s series titled “The Four Seasons” serves as an enjoyable reunion for Steve Carell and Tina Fey from their underestimated action-comedy of 15 years past. Drawing inspiration from the 1981 film “The Four Seasons,” this show follows three sets of friends, who have been longtime companions, as they embark on a vacation together during each of the four seasons throughout the year. As health concerns and marital troubles surface, it’s soon apparent that each trio of couples is grappling with their unique predicaments.
In this play titled “The Four Seasons“, you’ll find actors like Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Colman Domingo, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, and Erika Henningsen. Critics have generally given the play favorable reviews, with the cast and the show’s humor being its standout aspects that are frequently commended. The series manages to shine independently while also serving as a delightful reunion for a past comedy project involving Carell and Fey.
Steve Carell & Tina Fey Co-Starred In Date Night Before Netflix’s The Four Seasons
Date Night Was Released In 2010
15 years prior to “The Four Seasons,” Steve Carell and Tina Fey starred in the Shawn Levy-directed film titled “Date Night.” This movie, which earned $152 million globally (as reported by Box Office Mojo), tells a story about the underappreciated married couple Phil and Claire Foster. In an attempt to rejuvenate their marriage, they visit an upscale restaurant. By accidently taking someone else’s reservation, the Tripplehorns who were supposed to be there, they end up on an unforeseen adventure as dangerous characters pursue them, suspecting a flash drive (believed to be in their possession) contains valuable information.
As a cinephile, I find myself captivated by “The Four Seasons,” where I, like Nick (Carell), and my friends take seasonal trips together, albeit not as a married couple yet. Compared to Phil’s marriage in “Date Night,” mine with Anne (Kenney-Silver) seems more strained at the start of the series. There’s an uncanny resemblance between Nick and Phil; both feel their marriages have hit a rut, and they’re discontent with the trajectory their lives are following. The notable contrast lies in that Phil yearns to revive his marriage, while I, as Nick, have already resigned myself from my relationship with Anne.

The plot of “Date Night” is more outlandish than that of “The Four Seasons,” as the 2010 film follows Carell and Fey’s characters who find themselves in a world of mistaken identity and espionage after an unexpected turn of events. In contrast, the narrative of “The Four Seasons” is more realistic, but both stories start with long-term couples recognizing they are at a turning point in their marriages and taking action, resulting in equally awkward and humorous scenarios.
Why It Took 15 Years For Steve Carell & Tina Fey To Properly Reunite After Date Night
Both Stars Have Been Busy
In essence, Carell and Fey appeared together again in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” as Carell replayed his character Brick Tamland from the initial film, while Fey had a brief guest role as Jill Janson. However, due to the limited extent of Fey’s part, it could not be called a full-fledged reunion. Their first true reunion since “Date Night” in 2010 can be seen in “The Four Seasons.” Both actors have been actively engaged and thriving in their respective roles since the 2010 movie, which made an earlier reunion challenging.
Following his last stint as a main character on “The Office”, Carell moved forward to voice the character of Gru in various “Despicable Me” films, appeared in “The Big Short”, stepped into Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” replacing Bill Murray, and so on. Meanwhile, Fey continued her role in “30 Rock”, created and produced “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, returned to “Saturday Night Live”, and featured in three seasons of “Only Murders in the Building”. The anticipation for a Carell and Fey reunion was indeed lengthy, but as it turns out, it was worth the wait. Their chemistry and humor in “The Four Seasons” were simply fitting for them.
