As a fan who admired Steve Mensch’s incredible contributions to the entertainment industry and the community of Atlanta, I am deeply saddened by his untimely passing. His spirit was infectious, and his smile could light up even the darkest of rooms.
Sadly, Steve Mensch, the head of Tyler Perry Studios‘ day-to-day operations in Atlanta, has passed away. He was 62 years old.
Mensch was killed in a plane crash in Florida on Friday night. According to Florida Highway Patrol, troopers responded to a single-engine, fixed-wing airplane crash on West White Dogwood Drive, near the intersection of US-98, in Homosassa, Florida. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is under investigation.
Tyler Perry Studios deeply mourns the loss of Steve Mensch, who was a valued team member for over eight years and held dear in the Atlanta community. His absence leaves us with an emptiness that’s difficult to fill, as his warm smile was a common sight throughout our halls. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with his family during this tough time, and we extend our sympathies and prayers to them.
In 2016, he became part of the studio team and played a significant role in moving it from Greenbriar, Georgia, to Atlanta’s Fort McPherson army base, now transformed into a massive 330-acre film and TV production site. This lot, one of the biggest in the U.S., boasts 12 custom-built sound stages, 200 acres of open space, and a varied backlot, as per the Tyler Perry Studios’ official website.
At the studio, which was the first significant motion picture production facility on the East Coast, Manch handled the routine tasks. Upon ascending to the company’s presidency, he rose to prominence within Georgia’s business sector and sat on the Board of Governors for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Furthermore, he was a founding member and chairperson of the Georgia Screen Entertainment Coalition. Additionally, through his involvement in various arts organizations in the state as a board member, as stated on his LinkedIn profile.
