Stop Buying TMNT Crossovers and Play Shredder’s Revenge Instead

As a gamer, I was left feeling swindled by the latest TMNT bundle for Black Ops 6. Forking over $80 just to get all four characters felt like an underhanded move. I mean, who wouldn’t balk at such a price tag? And it’s not just this game; it seems that skins for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are always costly, as evidenced by their appearances in Street Fighter 6 and Fortnite. It’s high time they reconsidered their pricing strategy!

It adds to the oddity that a decent game featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, titled “Shredder’s Revenge,” is already available in the market.

If you’re not familiar, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is a contemporary brawler game inspired by classic titles featuring these characters, but with user-friendly enhancements. It boasts stunning pixel art, an engaging combat system, and numerous ways to vanquish the Foot Clan. Plus, it’s not just the turtles you can play as; April O’Neil, Splinter, and Casey Jones are also available characters.

Not only is this action game fantastic, but it also provides an option for six players to enjoy the game together, either online or offline. Additionally, more characters can be acquired through downloadable content, providing ample opportunities for exploration for enthusiasts.

The base game TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is priced at $24.99, while the Ultimate Edition goes for $32.99. Compared to some of the high prices for certain crossover DLC in other games, this seems quite reasonable. For instance, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is charging a staggering $20 per turtle, and Street Fighter 6 isn’t far behind with each character costume costing $14.99.

It’s possible that Nickelodeon, the company behind a well-known cartoon, might be responsible for the high prices of crossover DLC. Given their corporate status, such pricing seems reasonable. However, we don’t have concrete evidence for this, but it’s not far-fetched to consider this as a possibility.

It’s not just the most disappointing aspect; it leaves us puzzled as to why gamers would choose the TMNT characters in these games. Frankly, they’re merely cosmetic costumes in Street Fighter 6 and Black Ops 6, failing to deliver an authentic turtle experience. Although you can view your costumes in the Capcom fighter, Black Ops 6 being a first-person shooter makes the $20 DLC investment seem even more unnecessary.

To be fair, not every crossover DLC featuring these characters is subpar. In fact, the fighting game DC Injustice 2 included all four of them as downloadable content within its season pass. Each character had distinct moves and dialogue, which added to their uniqueness rather than making them mere skins. Sharing a slot for them was an intriguing choice, and even now, the reveal trailer still gives me goosebumps.

In TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, the characters are just as skilled as in Injustice 2, but the chaos you can create with them is unmatched. It’s true that not everyone might appreciate a 2D beat-em-up, but this one is top-notch in its genre. Furthermore, it won’t break the bank to play, so even if someone doesn’t enjoy it, they won’t have lost much.

Have I shared with you that this game offers a six-player cooperative mode on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch? It’s hard to believe you haven’t picked it up already! That seems quite unbelievable.
