The creators of the series Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, have chosen to clarify the meaning behind their description of Season 5 as “eight blockbuster movies” a few days ago. While it’s likely related to the amount of footage they filmed and the length of each episode, they also intended to convey their approach to writing, which involves combining deep character development with spectacular scenes featuring grand cinematic effects.
According to Cinema Blend’s report, the creators of Netflix’s hit fantasy horror series were honored with the Variety Showrunner Award at the SCAD TVfest. Matt Duffer took the occasion to clarify some points he made during the recent Netflix event where it was surprising that Stranger Things was not included in the 2025 slate presentation. This is what he expressed regarding the episodes being similar to “blockbuster films”.
Ross and I have a fondness for longer movies. We appreciate the spectacular visual effects, but ultimately, it’s the character development that truly matters. As for television, despite our film background, what I admire about it is its ability to create grand cinematic special effects, while still delivering extravagant sequences.
Additionally, since there is ample time spent with these characters, it becomes highly engaging when they encounter situations requiring special effects, as you grow emotionally invested in their outcomes.
Previously, we shared that the Duffers have been working on refining their visual effects scenes. The post-production work for such a large-scale show is substantial, and considering Matt Duffer’s statements, it’s clear they aim to conclude the series with a finale that combines both epic grandeur and deep emotional impact.
The Duffer brothers have shared that Stranger Things is set to return in 2025, although Netflix has yet to confirm an official date. They aim to create grand cinematic effects and elaborate sequences, which they feel necessitate more time for production. Fans who’ve been with the Hawkins crew since 2016 might find a slight delay acceptable, knowing that the series finale could be a fitting end to this decade-long adventure.
Becoming an Adult on the Upside Down
I was fortunate enough to receive an award from Caleb McLaughlin himself – the talented actor who brings Lucas Sinclair to life on our favorite show. It’s amazing to see how much McLaughlin, now a 23-year-old actor, has grown and evolved since we first saw him in Season 1. The same can be said for the rest of the cast; as they’ve matured, it’s clear that they’ve all come a long way. Matt Duffer even mentioned how proud he is of the cast’s growth, hinting that there might be flashbacks to our beloved characters in Season 5.
It’s not until you revisit Season 1 or a flashback is shown that you realize, ‘Wow!’ Those were the small characters. You had almost forgotten about them.
It feels like a family to us. We’ve been together since the start, which makes it truly unique and heartwarming. What stands out about this show is the remarkable development of each character into admirable human beings. Initially, there was concern that fame might corrupt them, but I couldn’t be more pleased with how they’ve turned out as individuals.
