As a long-time follower of the Bollywood scene, I must say that the recent statements made by Aparshakti Khurana about the credit war over the success of Stree 2 have struck a chord with me. Having seen countless films and witnessed the inner workings of the industry, I can attest to the fact that there is often more going on behind the scenes than what meets the eye.
Currently playing in cinemas since August 15, the second installment of Amar Kaushik’s film, Stree 2, is making a big impact at the box office. The main cast from the original movie – Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi – all returned for this sequel. Most recently, Aparshakti, who portrayed Bittu, Rajkummar Rao’s on-screen buddy in Stree 2, opened up about the ongoing debate regarding the film’s success. The actor hinted that if he shares more, the discussion could extend beyond this topic.
During a new interview with Zoom, Aparshakti Khurana was asked to comment on Shraddha Kapoor receiving credit for the success of Stree 2 despite her less screen time in the film. Aparshakti said, “Main ispe kuch bolunga, baat khulegi toh door tak jaayegi, main kuch bolna nahin chahunga, audience jo kahe wo sahi hai (If I say something, the conversation will open up and it will be discussed by everyone. I don’t want to comment on it, whatever the audience feels is right is right.)
In a different turn of events, the actor from Stree 2 clarified that despite the film’s success at the box office, there’s a behind-the-scenes game being played called “boosting and undermining individuals.” He labeled this practice as unjust, emphasizing how public relations strategies can either propel an actor to stardom or overlook other cast members. Aparshakti also expressed his disappointment towards the media and journalists, suggesting they should address the issue of favoritism in their work.
Aparshakti clarified his feelings by mentioning that he feels equally fond of the Stree series and appreciates his fellow actors in the film. Unfortunately, he believes it wasn’t ideal for this situation to occur, given the current celebrations of its success. The actor made it clear that he doesn’t intend to take sides because all involved are dear to him and he respects their individual paths.
As an ardent admirer, I had the privilege to engage in a conversation with the star of Pati Patni Aur Woh. During our chat, he shared his insights on the diverse nature of acting in Bollywood. He mentioned that while some actors excel at both acting and dancing, others have a knack for managing their public relations effectively.
Stree 2 is a follow-up to the 2018 release of the original film, Stree. This new horror-comedy features Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, and Tamannaah Bhatia making brief appearances.
