In 2024, the movie Stree 2 featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor emerged as the year’s most successful blockbuster, surpassing big-budget films such as Animal and Jawan. With a relatively small budget, its conclusion has been likened to that of Avengers. Rajkummar Rao acknowledged this comparison, expressing delight that a film with a modest budget like Stree 2 is being compared to the epic saga of Avengers.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rajkummar Rao was inquired about whether he believed the ending of Stree 2 bore similarities to Avengers. Caught off guard, he queried, “Avengers?” When the interviewer brought up the notion that some people were referring to it as the ‘Indian Avengers,’ Rajkummar responded positively, saying, “That’s great. If we managed to create an Avengers film with our budget, it would be a triumph for Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan.”
Following the triumph of Stree 2, actor Rajkummar Rao has revealed his upcoming venture titled Maalik. On his 40th birthday, August 31, he released the initial poster for this gangster drama and confirmed that filming has commenced. This marks Rajkummar’s first foray into the role of a gangster in an action-packed thriller. The poster depicts him with his back to the camera, brandishing a gun, emanating the powerful aura of his character. In his Instagram post, he extended a warm welcome to the world of Maalik with the caption, “Welcome to the world of #Maalik! Filming has started and we’ll be meeting soon.”
In addition to Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, Stree 2 stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana. The movie was released on August 15, but had to contend with competition at the box office from Khel Khel Mein starring Akshay Kumar and Vaani Kapoor, as well as Vedaa featuring John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh.
Under the guidance of director Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 is being brought to life by the production companies Maddock Films and Jio Studios, led by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande respectively.
