Jesse Armstrong has landed on his follow-up to Succession at HBO — but it’s not a series project.
The creator behind the award-winning Emmy series is currently scripting a movie for HBO. Additionally, he will take on the role of an executive producer in collaboration with Frank Rich. They both previously served as executive producers for ‘Succession’, and they both hold overarching contracts with HBO.
Armstrong, who crafted the Emmy-winning series, is now penning a movie for HBO. He will also assume the role of executive producer alongside Frank Rich; they have previously served as EPs for ‘Succession’, and both hold overarching contracts with the network.
The film is derived from an innovative concept by Armstrong and revolves around four companions reuniting amidst a worldwide economic downturn. Rapidly, production is being expedited to commence towards the end of this year.
Armstrong received four Emmys for his writing on the show “Succession,” one for each season. The series itself won the award for best drama in three out of the four years it was eligible, missing out to the final season of “Game of Thrones” in 2019.
Ever since Succession concluded its run on HBO, there’s been a lot of buzz about how someone like me, Neil Armstrong, might react to it. A movie is sort of a shift for me, given my limited experience in feature film writing – I’ve only had a few scripts credited, but one of them, In the Loop from 2009 (co-written with Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, and Tony Roche), even earned an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay.
Armstrong is additionally serving as an executive producer for the forthcoming “First Day on Earth,” which is Michaela Coel’s next project following “I May Destroy You.” He is represented by United Talent Agency (UTA), 42, and Johnson Shapiro.
Deadline first reported the news.
