Suits LA Series Finale: Surprising Wrap-Up & What Could Have Been in Season 2

Warning: SPOILERS for Suits LA episode 13.

The first episode of the thirteenth season of Suits LA provided a satisfying conclusion for the season, yet it was not intended to serve as the series finale. The spin-off of the original Suits premiered in early 2025; however, the cancellation of Suits LA was announced prior to its second-to-last episode (“Angry Sylvester”), causing the season finale to unexpectedly wrap up the entire series. Within Suits LA, there were two competing law firms: “Black” (led by Stephen Amell’s Ted Black, Lex Scott Davis’ Erica Rollins, Maggie Grace’s Amanda Stevens, and Alice Lee’s Leah Power), and “Railsback-Lane” (headed by Josh McDermitt’s Stuart Lane, Rachelle Goulding’s Samantha Railsback, and Bryan Greenberg’s Rick Dodsen).

The thirteenth episode of Suits LA wrapped up not only the turbulent partnership issues between law firms, but also the key individuals involved in these firms. Essentially, the series finale addressed and resolved the existing hostility to pave the way for fresh conflicts. Regrettably, the spinoff was axed by NBC, meaning we won’t get to witness any further developments within Aaron Korsh’s cinematic universe. Fortunately, despite the show being canceled, Suits LA episode 13 managed to tie up most of its loose ends.

Ted & Samantha Team Up For Suits LA’s Final Case

The Former Couple Go Up Against A Hollywood Predator

Episode 13 of Suits introduced a formidable new adversary, Avery Jeffers (played by Mike O’Malley), a ruthless producer who isn’t shy about misusing his power or mistreating his staff. Samantha and Ted join forces to challenge Jeffers, but their ethical strategies are foiled by his clever maneuvers. In a last-ditch effort, Ted approaches his assistant, Roslyn (Azita Ghanizada), who confides that Avery had sexually assaulted her in the past when she worked for him. However, her case was silenced and overlooked, leaving her reluctant to assist Ted even after all these years.

To Amanda’s dismay, Ted discovers that he must approach Elizabeth Smith from “Suits LA”, a criminal prosecutor who was involved in Lester’s trial, to ensure charges against Jeffers are successful. At first, Smith declines, but Ted appeals to her sense of justice. In a tactic Ted later calls playing “a little dirty”, Smith threatens to register Jeffers as a sex offender and force his resignation. Ultimately, it’s Roslyn who gets to confront Jeffers as he signs a plea deal that strips him of his power, even if not his freedom.

Erica Finally Gives Into Her Feelings For Rick In Suits LA Episode 13

Dylan Is The Key To Their Reconciliation

Erica and Rick’s dynamic in the show Suits LA has been complex from the start. Originally, they were professional adversaries competing for the same promotion. However, during the merger debacle, Rick switched sides, joining Stuart’s firm while Erica was promoted at Ted’s. They managed to maintain a cordial relationship, with their discussions often hinting at a romantic history. As their playful banter persisted, Rick eventually expresses his affection for Erica, which she finds difficult to return due to fear. Subsequently, Rick requests some personal distance.

In the final episode of Suits LA, character Erica and Rick are reunited by client Dylan Pryor, portrayed by Victoria Justice, who had been spurned after expressing romantic feelings towards Rick. In episode 13, Rick explains to Dylan that as her attorney, they cannot blend professional and personal matters. Eager to alter Rick’s stance, Dylan hires Erica as her new legal representative. As the story unfolds, Rick confesses his long-standing, unrequited love for Dylan, but it turns out that Erica harbors the same feelings. In a passionate moment, Erica and Rick passionately kiss, hinting at potential developments in their relationship as it remains undefined.

Stuart Reverses His Episode 1 Betrayal And Asks Ted To Merge In The Suits LA Series Finale

The Best Friends End On A Great Note

In the first episode of “Suits LA”, the most shocking revelation was unquestionably when Ted discovered that his closest friend and partner, Stuart, had excluded him from a merger deal with Samantha. This event, without a doubt, was the most significant development in LA for the entire season, leading to the simmering conflict between Ted and Stuart. Previously on “Suits LA”, Ted and Stuart had forgiven each other for their past mistakes and rekindled their bond as brothers. In episode 12, Ted arranged for Stuart to attend an anger management retreat, paving the way for Rick Hoffman’s appearance as Louis Litt in the same episode.

In the final episode of Suits LA, the betrayal from episode 1 ultimately resolves. Following Ted and Samantha’s victory over Jeffers, Ted visits Stuart at his office for a discussion about their recent activities, which involve Kevin (Troy Winbush). Stuart proposes that Ted reconsiders the initial merger agreement and joins them, but Ted is hesitant due to the complicated love triangle involving himself, Samantha, and Amanda. Later on, Ted runs into Samantha, who expressively shows she isn’t deterred by messy situations. Ultimately, Ted decides to merge with Railsback-Lane.

How Stuart & Kevin Honor Eddie’s Memory In Suits LA Episode 13

Ted Gets The Last Laugh Over His Father

In the second half of the TV show Suits LA, Kevin, who’s close friends with Ted and was previously an FBI agent, had been mostly absent following his rejection of Ted’s job offer on the West Coast in episode 7. However, this changes in episode 13 when Stuart, appointed executor of Ted’s father (Matt Letscher), decides to use his newfound power for positive purposes. Stuart utilizes the inheritance from Ted’s father to establish a memorial park dedicated to Eddie Black (Carson A. Egan), Ted’s older brother who passed away in 2010.

In the TV show “Suits LA,” Eddie’s death has long been a source of torment for Ted. However, it isn’t until the final episode that the complete story behind his demise is disclosed. After Ted successfully imprisoned mob boss John Pellegrini (Anthony Azizi), an assassination order was issued against him. Aware of this plot, Ted’s father took him out for dinner, leaving Eddie alone at home. This allowed a mafia member to plant and detonate a bomb, taking Eddie’s life but sparing Ted’s. Interestingly, Ted’s father passed away in the initial episode of “Suits LA,” and instead of seeking revenge, Stuart assisted Ted in finding closure in the series finale.

The Real Meaning Of The Suits LA Series Finale

The LA Drama Took Too Long To Arrive

In episode 13 of Suits LA, although there were some standout moments, the spinoff’s lack of a strong identity made the finale seem insignificant. The narrative, characters, and emotional impact were all lacking, making it difficult to find a lesson or feel like we went on a journey. It appears that Suits LA had many factors contributing to its failure, but the most prominent issue in the finale was a weak sense of self. Despite having the grittiness of the original series, it lacked the charm, which contrasted with its Hollywood setting and originality.

In summary, Episode 13 of Suits LA contained some depth, particularly in the moral dilemmas portrayed through Amanda and Ted’s disagreement about dealing with Elizabeth. This struggle mirrors the reality that sometimes, in a harsh, survival-of-the-fittest world like Suits LA depicted, the end result justifies questionable means. However, Roslyn’s backstory, which could have been impactful, was delayed until the finale and her character was largely underutilized throughout the storyline. Ultimately, Suits LA had potential to be engaging, but it fell short in fully realizing its own narrative.

How The Suits Season 1 Finale Sets Up Season 2

Lots Of Loose Ends Will Never Be Tied

Despite some storylines reaching a conclusive end, many other intriguing narratives from Season 2 of Suits LA were left unresolved and never continued. It’s unfortunate because it appeared that peripheral characters on the Suits LA cast had potential to take center stage if the series was renewed. Alas, all we’re left with are the dangling plot threads from the Suits LA finale. Erica and Rick shared a kiss, but their romantic situation remained ambiguous. Ted agreed to merge with Samantha and Stuart, yet his feelings for Amanda kept him uncertain. In general, the future seemed complex yet promising.

In episode 13 of Suits LA, a significant conflict was resolved, but there’s no obvious replacement for it as we move into season 2. One possibility is that the series could have delved into flashbacks of Ted’s life after moving to LA. Another option might be to focus on another character’s past through flashbacks. An intriguing alternative could have been for Suits LA to abandon the contentious flashback sequences altogether, concentrating instead on current events rather than dwelling on a character’s troubled history. Regrettably, what may have unfolded in Suits LA season 2 will only exist as an unrealized scenario.
