Nevertheless, there are plot points that tie the two series together and explain why they feel so dissimilar.

Harvey Specter Is Appearing in ‘Suits LA’

The television series Suits LA shifts its location from New York, where the original Suits was set, yet the characters aren’t confined only to Los Angeles. A significant element of the show revolves around unraveling Ted Black’s past, which is depicted through flashbacks, primarily in New York. While these flashbacks don’t center on the Pearson Hardman law firm, a character from the initial series is scheduled to encounter Ted Black.

From the trailers and statements from both the show creator and original actor, we can expect to see character Harvey Specter appearing later during the initial season of Suits LA. An image of Ted and Harvey together is visible in the first episode, suggesting they share a past. Since Ted is depicted in New York flashbacks, it’s possible that viewers will catch a glimpse of Harvey in a flashback scene as well. A potential meeting flashback could be incorporated into an episode where Harvey travels to LA to assist Ted with his major criminal court case.

To date, it’s only Gabriel Macht who has been confirmed to reappear in Suits LA. The show’s cast and makers might be holding back on revealing who else will join, so viewers will have to stay tuned to find out. If Suits LA manages to attract a large audience, there could potentially be a second season renewal, which might increase the possibility of seeing more familiar faces from Suits again.

The ‘Suits LA’ and ‘Suits’ Characters Seem Similar

In the popular TV show Suits, it’s quite straightforward to identify Stuart Lane from Suits LA and Louis Litt as the main adversaries due to their similar characteristics. Both are portrayed as envious, vindictive, and resentful individuals who believe they deserve more recognition. While Stuart moves on from Ted’s firm by stealing his clients and staff, Louis attempts to oust Harvey Specter’s associate, Mike Ross, from the show.

In terms of Mike Ross, Rick Dodsen appears to be his counterpart, both being ambitious young individuals striving for success in the legal profession. However, unlike Mike who isn’t a licensed attorney, Rick chooses to leave Ted’s firm when he believes Ted is compromising moral principles.

Similarly, even though Erica Rollins reports to Ted Black in Suits LA and Jessica Pearson works under Harvey Specter in Suits, both characters share a knack for manipulation in their respective roles.

In the show Suits LA, not all characters resemble those from the original Suits. The initial episode presents several minor attorneys who play significant roles throughout the series. Among them is Ted’s former partner, Samantha, employed by Stuart; his old New York associate, Kevin, aiding him in a critical case; Amanda, a pro bono lawyer at Ted’s office; and Leah, an ambitious junior attorney under Erica.

Why Does ‘Suits LA’ Have a Much Different Focus Than ‘Suits’?

Instead of referring to “Suits LA” as a “spin-off” of the original “Suits”, it would be more accurate to describe it as a new series that shares some elements with “Suits”, but doesn’t necessarily follow the same characters or focus on legal drama in the same way. This is because “Suits LA” was not originally pitched as a spin-off and appears to have a broader focus on entertainment law.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’ve been following the exciting developments in the TV world. Back then, Aaron Korsh, the brilliant mind behind Suits, had pitched an entirely new series to NBC. This series focused on the lives of actors’ agents residing in the bustling city of Los Angeles. It wasn’t a spin-off of Suits, but rather a fresh concept on its own. Unfortunately for us fans, NBC decided not to pick it up.

Fast forward to 2023, and Netflix secured the streaming rights for Suits, which turned out to be a game-changer! The show skyrocketed in popularity, becoming the most-watched series of that year. Recognizing the potential, NBC sought to leverage this success, asking Korsh to reimagine his original idea as a sequel or continuation of Suits.

Beyond the legal backdrop and Harvey Specter’s character, Korsh’s distinctive concept for Suits LA as a separate series from Suits is evident.
